What *is* the law on selling cursed/haunted/magical/sacred stuff?

Do you just have to put a bit of small print somewhere on it saying 'For Entertainment Purposes Only' or 'Novelty Item'?
Because, after all, you can't prove that it is/isn't haunted or magic, can you?

It would so be able to fly. By means of magic...K

I was afraid you might say that. [begins to worry about SGBs hitherto impeccable grip on reality]

MillyR · 11/11/2011 23:56

I have had a look on ebay, and nobody is attempting to sell pieces of the One True Cross, so I reckon I could make a fortune with some bits of kindling.

CheerfulYank · 12/11/2011 00:02

Whatevs Gordy , USA XFactor is better than UK this year so nerrr.

And I have enough guns thank you. :)

SolidGoldVampireBat · 12/11/2011 00:22

There are people selling 'haunted' jewellery for $5000! And they have massive seller ratings. FFS! Mind you the jewellery seems to be precious metal and real gemstones as well as wooo-infested. And they do have big disclaimers saying it's novelty items etc.

I think you'd have a job with the One True Cross because it could be proved quite easily that the kindling was in fact only a fortnight old. And from a tree that didn't grow anywhere near Israel.

MillyR · 12/11/2011 00:27

Perhaps, but surely all the bits of the One True Cross, as approved by the Catholic Church are also often not from Israel and not 2000 years old.

In a spiritual sense, my kindling is the One True Cross.

CheerfulYank · 12/11/2011 00:27

Good luck in your endeavors, SGB. :)

SolidGoldVampireBat · 12/11/2011 00:30

Mind you,one has to put a fair bit of effort into designing the page etc by the look of it. Still, I might give it a go...

Mind you, ethical questions occur to me... you obviously have to ask for a lot of money to look convincing. How much is it fair to fleece the gullible for?

OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 12/11/2011 00:33

Yes, but Milly it won't be nearly as popular as this magick stuff, I mean I don't suppose you can market it as good for 'lust or revenge'.

GrimmaTheNome · 12/11/2011 00:34

SGB - if its EBay, can't you let them decide for themselves?

SolidGoldVampireBat · 12/11/2011 00:37

Up to a point.... Mind you, I could also not dispatch the item and when they complain, tell them a ghost must have got it.

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 12/11/2011 00:37

What Grimma said, just put it up for auction and put a "novelty purposes" only on the bottom, otherwise you're as bad as those con-man psychics you're always on about. Wink

MillyR · 12/11/2011 00:37

I was more thinking that I might market it as part of a demon/ghost hunting kit, like Sam and Dean Winchester have on Supernatural.

It would suit more active, outdoor types who are not going to be satisfied with waving around a scented candle while wearing a magickal pair of clip on earrings or whatever.

whattheactualjeff · 12/11/2011 00:44

you have to see it through though, I would be genuinely pissed off at my 'magick' investment to see some note with Thanks for the 50$ you fucking loon written on it. Do the thing proper I say.

SolidGoldVampireBat · 12/11/2011 01:19

Wouldn't it be more of a public service to send them secret spells which prove to read 'Bwahaha You've Been Conned' though? It might teach them something...

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 12/11/2011 01:21

Doubt it. People believe what they believe. It might make you feel better though. :)

pissedrightoff · 12/11/2011 01:27

I am ashamed to admit that I bought a fertility spell when TTC DD (had a mc and then an ectopic) and was such a desperate/unhinged/scary barren person at that point if someone told me I'd get pregnant stood on my head, naked in my garden whist singing agadoo backwards...I'd have done it.

whattheactualjeff · 12/11/2011 01:28

I doubt it too. Besides you need to think about the feedback. Wink

izzywhizzyspecanpie · 12/11/2011 04:53

When it comes to fleecing the gullible, SGVB, fairness doesn't come into it.

Sounds like a plan, MillyR. Or how about collecting acorns or conkers and flogging them off as 'grow your own One True Cross using seeds from the Original'? Grin

SolidGoldVampireBat · 12/11/2011 20:32

Have been cheerfully plotting my Woo Range all day. I've even managed to square it with my conscience. Big bags of money, here I come Grin

There is a sicko lady who posts on Netmums who sells fertility spells to desperate people who are struggling to conceive. I started a thread about how morally abhorrent that was and they pulled it whilst leaving her thread advertising her tut! I think she got around ebay rules by posting them a stone to put under their pillow or something so she wasn't selling nothing.

RomanKindle · 12/11/2011 20:46

Someone posted saying that they had bought one and she makes buyers leave positive feedback before she will cast their spell too!
