I'm divorcing from my husband. Why would his solicitor be asking for my birth certificate? I've asked him and he won't tell me. Any ideas what he's up to?

I suppose if you were asking for spousal maintenance it would give them a cut off date if you retire. Can't imagine the relevance otherwise. Ask them or dont give it until they explain the relevance.

sorry ignored top of question as i am not a lawyer or any description.

I am/was a family lawyer and I don't recall ever asking for ther other parties birth certificate. Rather odd request and I would not supply it.

Thanks everyone. I'm a bit perplexed by it. He's told me to phone them and ask them myself but that's not appropriate so maybe I should just try and ignore it.

I'm assuming you are in person? Is so write and ask why they require it as they need to have a good reason for requesting such documentation

I think I've cottoned on... I think he's instructing his solicitors to file a court order, possibly for residency, as the forms ask for place of birth, which was how the conversation last night started.

And on that note, I shall not post again as he has stalked me on MN in the past.

Thanks again everyone for your help.
