Wills and probate

I know that google is my friend but it has confused me massively and I wondered of any MNetters has been through this. Will be as brief as possible but am more than happy to answer questions.

My dad died in 2007 and to cut a long story short cut me and my sibling out of the will leaving half to his father and half to his girlfriend.

We contested (me and my brother) my father's will to a certain extent and were awarded some monies but the family were in court and said that if we walked away and gave in grandpa would not write us out of his will.

Fast forward 3 years and grandpa died in feb leaving his estate and my father's estate. As it is a farm I am guessing probate etc will take months if not years.

AIBU to try and get a copy of the will??? I am
more than convinced I am written out but with 17 grandchildren i am just curious.

The wll is not a public document until it goes to probate, so legally you aren't legally entitled to til then.

However, if the executors agree to it, a solicitor can allow you advance viewing of the will before then. But it is down to the executors to decide.

(Just asked DH who is a partner - solicitor - who specialises in this are aof law. I have paraphrased but that was the gist I believe.)

Thanks so much - meant to check back sooner. Think probate is going to be a while as it is not an easy estate iyswim and there is no way the executors would let me know.

Probate shouldn't take long - unless I'm mistaken? I think probate is just getting the power to execute the will. Executing the will takes ages. I was the executor of my grandpa's will and probate took a couple of weeks.
