Purchased a freezer off ebay, the seller was offering 12 month guarantee, on a brand new product. Had some difficulty contacting/collecting as it was from a private house, hence just asked the woman, is all the paperwork there? and took the product. (Stupid I know).

I am now wondering, with no receipt or proof of purchase only a 'register this product for your guarantee' form, am I within my rights to ask the purchaser for that info? I guess if she paid for it on a card then the guarantee only applies to her? If that is the case, do I have any case re false advertising on her behalf, i.e. advertising it with a guarantee when it effectively has none? It was certainly a big factor in paying that bit extra for the product, thinking I would have 12 months peace of mind.

Have googled, but could find no consumer law info, if anyone has something for me to refer to that would be excellent.

Cheers.

The guarantee is only valid between the person who purchased the item and the store selling it. If sold on to a Third Party, then the guarantee is not valid for that party.

But if she sold it to you with a guarantee then it's part of her contract with you, so if it breaks within the 12 months you can ask her to repair or replace it.
