How Could This Happen

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I need advise
Last week I recevied a very threaten call from a ex friend. Due to the contents of the call I instantly reported this to the police. When I looked at my phone history to show time etc there was no record of the call only a earlier missed call that she had made previously that day.
How the hell could this be. Is there another way I can prove the call was received and taken. There is no way I could have deleted the call and I know exactly when the call was received. Would the mobile company beable to trace my call history to prove the call was made. Thanks

Do you mean you looked on your history on your phone? Can you have a look at the itemized bill online?

Tanktop · 20/04/2011 12:21

Yes it was the call history on the phone. Like I said the missed call previous and the call I received after this call are showing just not the actual one where I spoke to her. There is no way the police are going to take this seriously without proof surely. The ex is not one to mess with and I am now regreting actually reporting it.
Would a itemised bill on line show incoming call. The number would be shown as with held as she always with holds numbers.

Oh right, yes. It won't show the incoming calls, will it? I guess all you can do, is speak to your phone provider and see if they can help.

The phone companies keep records of all calls made for I think at least 30 days. The police can request records. Persuading them to make the request is the hard thing.

Are you sure you're looking in the right place in your phone? There might be one list for missed calls and another for received calls.

Tanktop · 20/04/2011 12:46

No,looking in the right place. The police are still going to speak to her regarding the threats. So hopefully that will solve the issue. Why would it have to be this call that did not register. I don't want to press any charges just want her to know that I have reported her threats.

Collaborate - are you saying the the police could get this information if need be?

Yes, but there is something like 28 days in which they have to make the request, though I may be wrong in that that might be the minimim length of time they have to keep records for, but they may hold on to them for far longer.

Don't build your hopes up though. for something like this the police are highly unlikely to request anything of the phone company.

Tanktop · 20/04/2011 13:24

Thanks, as long as I know it can be done then I am happy. At the moment I will just be content with the police speaking to ex friend... Hopefully that will be the end of the matter.

Do you have Skype on your phone with her as a contact? because they don't show up as a call missed or received on your usual lists.

Tanktop · 20/04/2011 13:43

No skype, just your bog standard phone. She was not on as a contact as she always with held her number. There is no record even of a with held numbered call at the time I received the call. Its so weird.

Most mobile and landline contracts can be viewed online (and printed off). Just register for online billing and they should be shown. This is the quickest way to get a record. I am not honestly sure if a with held number would appear as I have no personal experience, but I would pay a few extra pounds and stop your phone allowing these calls through to you.

gillybean2 · 21/04/2011 05:36

I may be wrong but I recall reading a while back that some phones were going to offer you the option to have your call log automatically deleted from the receivers phone. I think the recipient has to sign up for it too though.

Are you sure your phone doesn't lump unknown numbers together? Mine will say 3 missed calls from unknown number and then I can open that up to see what time those 3 calls were.

Tanktop · 21/04/2011 11:04

I will check the lumping together of calls on my phone and see it this is what has happened. As I actually took the call not sure if this is going to be the case.

1 of my previous phones didn't record calls received from witheld numbers, it showed them in missed calls but only showed names / numbers in received calls (think it was a nokia but may not have been - I've had a lot of different phones!) but easy way to check - call yourself from a landline but dial 141 before the number and answer it, see if it appears or not!
