If I have a service agreement with a company which has gone bankrupt do I need to cancel it?

The title says it all really. I had an ongoing service agreement with a company which recently went out of business. There is now a new entity which has seemingly taken over with a different company name. No-one from the original company has contacted me about this and my contract was with the original entity.
I now want to cancel the service - do I need to or will it automatically have been cancelled since I don't have a contract with the new company?

You'll have to check the small print in your contract with them.

Write to both company's them recorded delivery saying you want to cancel . If they dispute ask to see a copy of your signature on the relevant contract

I'd check the contract first.
Companies don't go bankrupt. Only individuals do.

Is it being wound up? Is it in administration?

If you try and terminate the agreement when you have no right, the receiver (or whoever) may be entitled to seek from you all of the payments you should have made under the agreement.

I can terminate it with two weeks' written notice. Sounds like I should send a letter regardless to be safe rather than assuming the company no longer exists. I don't know whether it's in administration or being wound up to be honest. It seems to still be in operation so I'd imagine the former.
