How do I start to look for legal advice re the death of my relative due to medical negligence? I am not after money, but I want these people to realise what they have done, and learn from it so that another family does not suffer the way have.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

TIA

'these people' - who? The medical community?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 11/04/2011 20:41

This might be a starting point.

Sorry - didn't want to be specific. The staff who were supposed to be caring for the person who died. There is a significant amount of time that cannot be accounted for, during which time the person was in probably in considerable distress. By the time help was summoned, it was too late. Sad

I will read the information on that link. Thanks. I am still in shock, but don't want to leave things too long.

Call the police?

LIZS · 18/04/2011 11:11

Was there an inquest ? Maybe speak to local Coroners' office. If at a hospital there should be a Patient's Liaison person

dontwanttobeIDd · 18/04/2011 11:16

Yes - there has been a PM. No inquest though - no evidence at the time. Just waiting for all the documents, gathering evidence, waiting to see hospital records etc. Coroner can only establish cause of death, not the neglect that led to it, IYSWIM.

You need to write to the coroner expressing your concerns and he will direct the Police to carry out an investigation. Also write a letter of complaint to the Health Authority as per the above link.

It may be worth contacting the Police. Some Forces have a Coroners Liaision Officer who act as a conduit between the Coroner and the Police
