I know someone who has received a court summons for JSA benefit fraud. Basically she underestimated dp's savings on the form. All the money has been repaid. I am told it was about 20k although that seems high to me so I am assuming it included a penalty. They have not been living a high life.
She is in a real state. Her mum has just past away and lost another close family member died last year.
Also what advice shoul I give her?

She'll have a solicitor that can give her the legal advice.

If all the money has been repaid that is a huge mitigating feature.

Her solicitor should be able to give her a clear idea of what the options are in her case.

Thank you Would she qualify for any help with legal costs?

Yes, and she'll be aware of this already. As there is a chance she'll go to prison, she'll qualify for legal aid.

Thank you for that collaborate. She didn't think she would qualify and I didn't know.
