Nightmare freeholder

We own a flat that we rent out but the freeholder for the building is a complete nightmare. I won't bore you with long list of this company's misdemeanours but the latest is that they have cased the house in scaffolding in order, we assumed, to do some work on the upstairs flat which they still own outright. There was no consulation about putting in scaffolding or what work would be done. Our tenants have just arrived home to find one of the windows in their flat broken in a clumsy attempt, they think, to replace the sash.

I am going to have to have yet another long conversation with f/h tomorrow to get them to repair the damage but I wanted to check that they can't charge us for a proportion of the work they are carrying out on the building unless they consult first (it will undoubtedly be more than #250). No notice given, no letter sent, all a complete surprise.

I don't know the answer to your question, but you might try asking the Leasehold Advisory Service 020 7383 9800. They have been very helpful to me in the past.
