Could this be a breach of contract?

We have recently relocated for DH's job. The job comes with a house which was the main attraction for us. The house needed work doing to it so the company rented us a house nearby (which we are still in).

This work was supposed to be done months ago but there has been major hold-ups getting the budget approved. They are now starting the work but have said that they only thing they are doing is repairing a leak in the roof.

Originally we were promised new carpets and blinds throughout and new kitchen worktops. More recently we were told that they would change internal doors, knock down walls, rip out a sink, sort out a damp patch and sort out the garden. We have emails which back all of this up. DH's contract only says that there is accommodation with the post though, it doesn't specify to what standard.

We feel that we were mis-sold the job as the house as it is is not really suitable for a young family. I think they have basically just run out of money for the project but this isn't really our fault!

Do we have any grounds to sue?

Not sure about your situation but I would imagine the emails would act as back up and detail of what you were promised in the contract.

Though I would imagine this could be costly to enforce.

Does your contract have an entire agreement clause in it that says it forms the whole understanding between the parties etc?

If so, when were the emails written? Was it before or after you signed the contract? If after signature or if there is no entire agreement clause then the emails may form part of the contract and the employer will have to provide what was agreed.
