Redundancy meeting - is this a legal meeting?

Long story but need quick advice please. My Dh has been issued a warning of Redundancy leter and called to a meeting tomrrow.

The letter states that both his direct line manager (A) and more senior manager (B) will be present. The letter was written and signed by B and until very recently was the only manager my DH had.

We have now been told that B will not be present after all. What I want to know is can my DH refuse the meeting as it is not actually legal if B does not attend, as stated???

Any help greatly appreciated

The employer has to consult with employees that could be affected by redundancy. However, it doesn't matter who is there as long as someone suitable from the employer attends and it is a genuine consultation, explaining why your husband has been selected for redundancy and looking at alternatives. So the meeting doesn't become "illegal" just because the more senior manager doesn't attend.

Even if there was a breach of the procedure, it wouldn't allow your husband to start talking about "illegal meetings". The most he could do is start a case for unfair dismissal on the grounds that the correct process was not followed.
