my sister has worked for the same firm for 25 years and was transferred to another office 4 years ago. she settled in fine and ajusted her life around the move. she has now had a grievance with her line manager and is getting transferred to her original office "a busines decision" apparantly Hmm she is distraugt and has had to take time off with stress to work out what to do. the move means she will have to travel 4 hours on buses per day in order to do 3 hours work she only travels 1 and half hours now. she will have to resign if she is forced to move. she has 2 children who she has to fit her hours of work around. can she refuse to move or will she just have to resign? any advice would be appreciated as i just dont know how to guide her.

It depends on what her contract says. If it contains a "mobility clause" saying she has to work wherever her employers say then her options are to resign or move. If her contract does not contain such a clause she can refuse to move, in which case her employer may make her redundant. That's a little better than resigning in that she will get some compensation but it still isn't great. Sorry.

thanks for your advice prh47bridge as far as she knows her contract does not contain this clause. i will ask her to dig out her contract and have a look. its so upsetting to see her go through this as all she done was stick up for someone who was getting bullied and now shes caught in the crossfire Sad
