Do you think my friend will be allowed back to work?

A friend of mine recently started an NVQ in childcare and was working voluntarily at a nursery. They offered her a part time job which started about a month ago.

However she isn't well and is under investigation to see what is wrong. So far they haven't really found anything but they said her vitamin D is low. They have suggested M.E. but they want to rule out other options first.

Years ago she used to go through phases of passing out. The cause was never found. Now it has started again and it happened at work last week and she went to hospital with a very low bloody pressure. They were about to let her go when she passed out while on the bed, nothing wrong with blood pressure that time. Kept in over night for ECG, looking for heart problem, no problem there.

She isn't allowed to drive now and she has been signed off work. They are now doing a risk assessment to see whether she will be allowed back, she works with the babies.

I reckon she won't be allowed back. They knew she had ongoing health problems anyway and she has only had the job a month and been signed off already.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of a situation like this?

Had she had breakfast and regular drinks? Was her blood sugar low?

I don't think thats what it is. It has been happening on and off for years. She isn't the healthiest eater but her DH encourages her to eat a bit better. She does eat meals though and doesn't skip breakfast.

The nurserys first duty of care is to the safety of the children, what if she passes out whilst carrying a baby, falls on one etc. Also how will the possibility of your friend becoming ill effect the other members of staff, not to mention the nurserys insurance policy. I think your friends best course atm would be to get a definate prognosis and treatment to control the episodes then speak to the employer again.

Feel very sorry for him/her btw.
