Hi,

Sorry just posted this, but i think it disappeared!!

Asking advice for my dad. He runs a small business and advertises in the local paper. He ran up a susbstantial arrears with them a few years ago (£2k plus). He was on the verge of bankruptcy, but has managed to stave it off .. just.

He set back up with a smaller version of the business end of last year, himself and 1 other, and has been using the local paper to advertise. Hes been prepaying his adverts and paying £50 off the arrears. He has done this every week without fail.

Now this morning without warning the credit control department have rang him, and said they are no longer willing to carry on with this arrangement, and unless he pays £500 they will not let him advertise.

Now obviously he cant pay this, but without the ability to advertise he cannot get work, cannot carry on his business, and so cannot even clear his arrears! The paper just said not their problem!! I dont understand, it makes no sense to me, why they would turn down £100 of prepaid advertising, £50 off a debt in exchange for threatening him with court action, which is likely to be him either paying £5 pe month, or going bankrupt!

Is there anything legal we can quote at them, or anything we can say to them to make them carry on with the arrangement?

Ta

Is he a member of FSB or the Chamber of Commerce? He should ask them to put in a good word for him.
