Has anyone bought the house next door and knocked through?

I'm seriously considering this.

We won't be moving so loss of value (when compared to keeping them separate) isn't a problem.

Just wondered if anyone had done this or knows someone who has?

NotQuiteCockney did that, I haven't seen her around MN much recently though. I've seen her house after the knock through and it works very well. I think it was a very, very long job though, involving lots of dust and men in boots stamping about the place.

She may have done some threads about it, I think it was about 4 or 5 years ago.

Sorry, take out at least two of those 'though's. It seems to have become my new verbal tic, and it's annoying me.

one of mums from school doing this right now

sorky · 18/08/2010 13:53

Has she really? will have a look at archives then Bran, thanks.

I do the 'though' thing as well. never notice it in others posts, just get annoyed with my own.

Pinkchick, has she said if it's straightforward? I think ours will be (2x3 bed terraces), only building regs to consider.

Plus funding it Hmm

as far as i know quite straight forward, its just the building disruption and mess thats the prob, theyve sold one house so will have to move into conversion soon, but she says its not going to be ready for a long time!..saying that theyre doing msot of it themselves as her dp's electricion and knows people who do other things..good luck..oh and theirs is 2 x 2 bed.

Some friends have, they ahve knocekd through 2 old cotages, siply by making a doorway through from one sitting room to the next doors one.

yes, quite similar to our plans tbh. We have a hall cupboard (handily passageway width) which would lead into the dining room of the other house.

upstairs the master bedroom adjoins the smaller bedroom, making a rather handy dressing/ensuite.

we'll keep both staircases. Might move the front door though....

just need to fully remove their kitchen (not a problem, it's falling to bits) and change utilities, water meters etc.
