I have and always have had a clean license for the past 25 + years. I've just received my first ever speeding notice. I was doing 37 in a 30mph zone.

It doesn't say what the penalty will be but I am assuming 3 points and a (small) fine.

Anyone know?

Yes, I think 3 points and a £60 fine..or maybe the option of a speed awareness course instead.

RedArsedBaboon · 23/07/2010 12:31

£60 fine and 3 points is standard.

That is what i got anyway.

webchick · 26/07/2010 11:35

Did they get a photograph of the front of the car showing the driver? There are ways around having to identify yourself as the driver.

LadyBiscuit · 26/07/2010 11:36

Yep £60 and 3 points. Total bollocks isn't it?

SookehStackhouse · 26/07/2010 11:36

I had to pay £70 but had the option of going on a Speed Awareness Course rather than getting the 3 points.

GypsyMoth · 26/07/2010 11:37

why would she be looking for 'ways around' the fine/points???

Under 40 generally you can be offered a Speed Awareness course but that does cost money, although nothing goes on your record about it.

If your local force doesn't do that then I am afraid its 3 points and £60.

webchick I hope you aren't suggesting that OP is in any way looking to avoid her punishment for breaking the law are you?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/07/2010 11:43

Bringing in more hearsay, I've been told that a single speeding ticket won't generally affect your insurance premiums (although you do have to declare it).

Ohthisisnthappening · 26/07/2010 11:47

I had the £60/3 points thing once, years ago - the points fall off after a couple of years and I don't think it affected my insurance at all, but you must declare it obv.

I was doing a reckless 46 in what I thought was a 40 zone - recently changed to 30 apparently

and it was an imported vehicle so the speedo was in KM!!! Really annoying but fair dos. I was young and stupid.

webchick · 26/07/2010 12:03

What I'm saying will not mean the OP would be breaking the law or avoiding punishment.

However in an scenario my BIL encountered, the speed camera which snapped him was faulty, hadn't been calibrated for several years and upon him appealing, it was apparent that the Highways Agency (or whoever maintains the cameras) were at fault. This is just one example FWIW.
