Not too fussed about boot space but we only have £5k to spend.
Thanks in advance.

Do you mean 5 passenger seats, making it a 7 seater car?
If so an older citroen c8 is good value and gives you a total of 8 seats.

No I find that if the 5 of us are going out our audi A3 is a nightmare I can get one high backed booster, DD not on a booster aged 8 (very tall) and DH along the back but nobody is very comfortable at all.
I guess what I want is 5 proper seats.
Will buy a Galaxy when there are 6 of us

Our scenic can get 3 child seats in the back. Good boot space too.

Sorrento · 16/03/2009 20:07

I had a scenic and was very happy with it, I wonder if that's still the best one to go for.
Thanks

Picasso.

Can fit 3 carseats in the back

Brand new are reasonably cheap - so I guess you could pick up a 203yo one for your budget.

franke · 16/03/2009 20:10

We are going through this at the mo:
VW Touran
Renault Espace and Grand Espace
Citroen C4 and C8
Ford S Max and Galaxy
Peugeot 807
erm...
Seat Alhambra
if I think of any more I'll post again.

ChocEclair · 16/03/2009 20:14

We have a Nissan Almera Tino - it's a bit like the Picasso. Very large interior, 3 full seats with proper seatbelts in the back, and you can remove any or all of the 3 individually. Quite a spacious boot as well. We got it 4 yrs old for about that price! HTH

paranoidmother · 16/03/2009 20:19

We have a Nissan Quashqui and that can seat 5 in it ok the Quashqui +2 will seat 7 but with only small amount of boot space.

Berlingo

I mention it every time on these thread and get ignored becasue t's a van and not a People Carrier - but ours is FAB! 3 x 8 yr olds in the back and no probs.

Sorrento · 16/03/2009 20:38

Lol The odd one, hubby doesn't like the look of them i'm afraid.
The Almera looks fantastic, might be the one !

Riven - you're right, BUT I think most (or at least some) of them have three full-sized seats in a row in the back, and the two seats at the very back can be removed for extra boot space.

We've been looking into this, and are planning to get a (very old) Seat Alhambra before DC 3 arrives.

Lilyloo · 16/03/2009 20:42

We just got the touran and can fit 3 seats across the back.
All 3 seats move individually too.

TheOddOne · 16/03/2009 20:43

Poor neglected old Berlingos

Galaxy -old style has bigger boot, easily affordable for £5k.
Ours is a petrol and is actually pretty good fuel wise, not different to Dh's Mondeo.
5 fullsize passenger seats in the back. Central one is out in ours to give clear access through to the rear seats, but they all come out. Enough boot space for a P&T and 2 bags, but the best thing is it fits teenagers which the SMax does not.
Impact zone at the back is the same as having kids in a fiesta/ka etc according to my FIL who works for Ford, infact he reckons safer given those rear seats are higher off the road.
Unless a truck hits you and then everyone would be toast I'd imagine, even the front seat people.

McDreamy · 17/03/2009 11:31

Have just bought an S MAX - love it. Would highly recommend it

Sorrento · 17/03/2009 11:32

That's a good point about the truck, DH has always said the impact would be spread around the bumpers.
Do you really think we could get a galaxy for £5k ? HOw old is yours ?

Astarte · 17/03/2009 11:39

We bought a secondhand R reg, in immaculate condition, for £1250. FIL found it for us, but Autotrader had the old style at around 02/03 plate for easy £5K.

We will likely upgrade in a years' time but needed something to accommodate no.4. Personally I'm chuffed with it and it wouldn't bother me to keep it until it conks out.
I did covet a Chrysler GV, but FIL was reluctant to fix it (he does ours for free), he pushed us to go for the Galaxy saying there were rarely any problems with them.

OrmIrian · 17/03/2009 11:40

We have just got a Ford Galaxy and there is loads of room. It's wonderful! Only 5 of us but 2 of us are tall and need leg room and at least one of the DC are getting pretty long already.

OrmIrian · 17/03/2009 11:41

OOh...ours was £2950. Ok, and S reg but in very good comdition. Had been MOTed, serviced and put to rights. Very pleased so far.

Astarte · 17/03/2009 11:54

Get the Ghia if you can, it didn't make any sense at the time, but FIL said if I was driving it about for any length of time then a nicer interior/electrics everywhere would matter .
He's right!

They are fabulously huge inside aren't they OrmIrian?

OrmIrian · 17/03/2009 11:55

Yep. After our old one (a largish estate) it feels like we could hold a party in this one!

bratnav · 17/03/2009 12:05

Peugeot 307 SW (estate). We have 2 booster seats and a booster cushion which fit in without a problem. We have had my nephew in a first stage car seat instead of a booster seat and that also fitted no problem.

If yu were interested, you are best with the 1.6 HDi version.
