You could try the Flylady threads.

My house is a tip too. My strategy is to bark at the children to do about 20 minutes each of housework twice a day. By the end of half-term, I'm hoping the house will be respectable.

I tried Flylady (I even bought the book )and found alot of the hints are really useful, even if you don't follow the whole routine to the letter.

I go through phases. Sometimes when I'm on top of things I enjoy the housework and keeping things tidy seems quite easy. But as soon as I let things slip, even a little, it all gets too much very quickly. Then I find I can't seem to catch up!

Have you got a good friend or family member who would come and give you a hand for a few hours, just to catch up? Once you're on top of things again it will all seem more managable.

One thing I now do is this; I have a folding crate for each child, which gets filled with clean washing. I also put in any toys/books etc. I pick up from around the house. The older DC's are responsible for emptying their crates and returning them each day. I empty the smaller DC's crates when I put them to bed.

This only works if you religiously empty the crates every night, and make sure the older DC's empty their crates too, otherwise you'll just end up with crates scattered all over the place filled with clean and dirty clothes - which is no help at all.

I don't have a routine as such as what needs doing changes on a daily basis. I just muddle along and hope for the best. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't

I find flylady to washy (and american if you know what mean) so I have a spread sheet where I list everything I need to do. I even included things like feeding the chickens and making pack lunches as its a boost to the morale to cross things off. If I don't get something done one day I paste it to the weekend instead which starts off blank.
My house is chaos at the moment to outside eyes because I am decorating but I can honestly say I am getting loads done and it will get there.

My house is a tip, at the moment I blame it on the fact that I have a 12 day old baby soon I will have to find a new excuse...

sometimes its ok in some place but rarely is the whole house tidy!

no advice just dont feel too bad its not the most important thing

With a 12 day old baby there is absolutely no way you should be thinking about housework!

Enjoy your babymoon

Oh yes I loved the fact I had a baby to blame my lack of 'housewifery skills'....use it to it's full advantage, also babies grow up far to quickly so there's nothing nicer than snuggling....

Well I'm slowly getting there....wrote a list and have started everything but not yet finished one job... I have 5 bags of clothes to recycle, 3 bags of teddies to put in the attic (dc's won't let them go yet!) and thrown out masses of paper work dating back as far as 2000 Oh well it's a start!
