Isn't it just the WORST thing about having kids! It's the one main thing about our impending 3rd arrival....

Hope you're all on the mend very soon!

CarGirl · 09/02/2009 22:28

I have to say the permenantly full washing basket despite doing many loads per week does come a close 2nd to the illnesses.

aGalChangedHerName · 09/02/2009 22:29

We have been bug/illness free for a few weeks

Lilyloo · 09/02/2009 22:30

My insurmountable washing / ironing pile has to overtake this in my house i am afraid!!

lisalisa · 09/02/2009 22:30

Ah psychomum - wish tehm all better....
My one thing I cannot stand is that just when I think I'll have a moment's peace I hear "mummy...."

Can happen in any family, yes but in larger families statistically more likely to happen as more kids who have not been explained to that mummy just needs 5 mins....

Also when tehy all talk at once -I literally get vertigo and get all shievery from the effect of 3 or 4 or 5 voices all at once and can hear nothing but a general noise not voiccess....

Mummyfor3 · 09/02/2009 22:36

Hope they/you are better v soon, psychomum

Yes, hate all of the above, and raise you one: "Mummy, X hit me" "No I didn't" "Yes you did""You started it""No, you started it" etc etc etc et bleeding cetera, aaarghghgh!!!
I have started saying I am not interested who started it, but would dearly love to know who will feckin stop it!!

Is dd3 still throwing up? Poor kid, her tummy muscles must be aching.

drlove8 · 09/02/2009 22:42

extra pocket money for the quietest child in my house! - bribey, a mothers greatest weapon tool . taught ds4 how to use the washing machine today!- he had a bedwetting accident so sick of washing i am teaching them all. ds4 is only 3.

Madmentalbint · 10/02/2009 07:22

Seem to be dodging the illnesses for the ime being

It's the washing I can't seem to get to grips with - and I only have four!
I seem to have clothes strewn all over the place in various stages of the washing cycle. Gah! Time to teach the eldest two to use the washing machine me thinks. I did show them once but they haven't ventured near since

Hope you're all fighting fit soon psycho

bran · 10/02/2009 07:31

I recommend elderberry tincture for the adults. Someone on here recommended it ages ago (MorningPaper IIRC). I found that I still caught what DS had, but the winter that I was taking elderberry the symptoms were very much reduced, as was the dragging tiredness that I usually get after illness.

psychomum5 · 10/02/2009 08:01

ooh, this is nice...........I thought this would be unanswered so tis good to see lots of messages when I log on.

crap night............DD2 had horrid asthma attack during the night so was sat with her from midnight to 2am calming her down and treating her, then gave her some medicine for her temp which made her throw up (she was refusing tablets so I gave her medised.......we can safely say she does NOT like the flavour of THAT!!!!).

DD3 was NOT up..............woohoo............coughing lots yes, but no sickness. am so hoping that that part is over. tis more sickness from cooughing anyway, but still hard to deal with on top of everything else. and yes, her tummy muscles are indeed sore!

the croupy boy was up n down, at one point needing toy story set up on the DVD player to help calm him down while I dealt with DD2. the things we do in order to deal with another child........I do find that hard guilt-wise at time.

DH was having nightmares and wailing at one point...............NO idea what that was, and of course he has no memory this morning, but suffice to say, I have had little sleep.

and to top it off, yes, I too have washing piling up.

the girls were/are supposed to be cheerleading too tonight for the under 19s fooball game against spain.........luckily it is just two stints before the match for them now as the teams also have other entertainment lined up, so they should cope ((psycho wonders if she is being comepletely delusional in hoping they will cope................lots of talks with the dance teacher ensueing today me thinks!)).

DD1 will be fine for it, so one is gonna have much fun. DD2 will force herself if I know my girl well enough............DD3 is the one missing out I think. ho hum, can;t help illness. having said that.......the rain the rain has been all night, I am surprised no-one is flooded out, and so am wondering about the pitch...........

TrinityRhino · 10/02/2009 08:13

oh psycho
I couldn't imagine having 5 that all get ill at once

I shouldn't even be here with only 3 but thought I would intrude to say I hope they all feel better soon

I thought it was bad enough when dd1 had been saying she felt sick so I was waiting...... than dd2 spent all night having a runny bum

then I thought we were sorted and then gecko started throwing and and I had the shits all the same night

that was bad enough but 5 you are a strong woman

psychomum5 · 10/02/2009 08:59

thankyou trinity for the vote of confidence, but really, tis not strength you see, it is 'having no choice'ness!

TBH, this is nothing compared to 3yrs back when they all came down with strep at the same time. THAT was bad.........all five throwing up at the same time, DD3 had a febrile seizure, DD1 was dehydrated, and the docs wanted to admit them both but DH was away and not able to get back (working in manchester IIRC), so we had the docs out daily and me nursing them thru and then a friend came to stay which was a godsend as I then fainted in the shower one morning thru simply being so tired I forgot to eat.

so this, now....................this is nuffin!!!

off for a much needed bath now. they are all up with disney channel.

Ah I have it with dd1. I also have to deal with a school that is more than slightly over zealous about it's atttendance statistics and hound me if she has more than one day off.

She is currently off with dirroreah and is that afraid of being off, after they sent an EWO last time she was ill, she made me get her up and take her to school knowing that she wouldn't be allowed to stay.

She doesn't eat properly and I am convinced that is why she is ill all the time. If there is a bug going around dd1 will get it. She also makes heerself ill by refusing to eat for days/weeks at a time.

Luckily I only have one who is ill. DD2 seems to get a lot of colds but is only snotty. She has only been ill with a cold once.

drlove8 · 10/02/2009 11:59

i am at the american woman with the 16 kids,....not that i want 16, im done....just that e has two washing machines and acres of land around her house....just think of all that drying space! ... am on my forth load today....next is the nappies from yeterday and the bedding takes all day that does!.diaroeah is the worst, when one comes down with it they all get it... i need more w.c.'s (only have one bathroom and no ensuite)seashells -if you get a visit from the education police just tell them the dc has the diaoreah invite them in to check....you'll never seesomeone disapear so fast in your life! lol

idobelieveinfairies · 10/02/2009 12:16

Would have to agree..the stomach bugs are the worse...about a year ago, on friday at 3pm picking children up from school, DS6 (then 3)vomitied in the car..by the time we arrived home 15 mins (later)..his twin sister (DD2) had started vomiting.

DS1 came home via bus from secondary..and stared being sick..followed by DS4..then his twin brother....then DSS3..and DD1...My sister then came to pick her son up aged 1 who i look after..took him home..got a phoneall saying he had gone home and started being sick..later in the evening i started being ill....

It was truly amazing how quick it all started...All ill persons were contained to the living room whilst all healthy ones had to be upstairs..In the end it was only DP and DS2 that were left upstairs and they never ever caught it.
(oh and my sister had had it overnight too..and her dp the night after)

It was truly the worst time ever.

Nits are also a horrid thing when you have many children.

idobelieveinfairies · 10/02/2009 12:17

oh forgot to add....hope all is getting better in your household phsyco

piximon · 10/02/2009 21:42

I agree, we're suffering too. DCs 3,4&5 have had colds for three weeks now, sounds like nothing, but three non-stop streaming noses is wearing me down, along with the sore throats, sore eyes, fevers, bad stomachs, whinging & wakeful nights, that go hand in hand with it.

I've got a really sore throat and haven't felt properly well for weeks either. Ds1 has a wobbly front tooth which has been bothering him for days.

It's ds1's 6th birthday on Saturday and I just hope we're all better, we've booked him a party, his 1st party with school friends invited. He'll probably come down with something on fri night.

psychomum5 · 11/02/2009 15:07

how are all the poorly ones today piximon?

I now have DD1 down with it. DD2 has made a miraculous recovery and managed to do the cheering last night and now gone back to school. ONE of mine has a decent immune system that fights things.

DD3 now on antibiotics, and the doc is chasing her appointment to the immunity specialist as we still have not heard from him.

DS2.......on steriods. his croup is not improving at night and as this is his third time since xmas he thinks he needs a boost. plus his temp spiked at the docs too!

and I have a lovely doctor.............asked him if he would mind giving me a script for calpol and nurofen as I am going thru so much........he said yes did a script for 5 bottles!!

OP posts:
Stretch · 11/02/2009 15:16

Did they do the cheerleading?? Did you do a thread about it? Must have missed it if so!

Hope they are all feeling better(ish)!

psychomum5 · 11/02/2009 17:46

yes, they did the cheerleading, but I haven;t done a thread yet as DD3 was really poorly last night after (she shouldn;t have done it really, but she really really wanted to and as it was for such an occasion I let her...........(she would have had to watch anyway as there was no-one to babysit her as we were all going to watch)......and then left straight after she did the first one to bring her home, and then nursed her thru lots of coughing etc last night. she is now on antibiotics.

I will do a thread for proper tho once I have pics...............one thing tho, the stadium wasn't as full as it should have been as there was a mahor car accident on the dual carraigeway getting in and held LOADS up...........three coach-loads got it only at half-time.

one thing exciting tho, the girls have been picked to be the teams ONLY cheerleaders now, so they are having the REAL-DEAL-AMERICAN-STYLE outfits made

being girly girls who love HSM, they are THRILLED!!!!

piximon · 11/02/2009 19:15

mostly still suffering psychomum, but thanks for asking, have an appt for dt1 tomorrow just to double check it's nothing more serious. My mum's also come down with it but can't get gp appt (same gp) for two weeks, I'm thinking of sending her with dt1 in the hope he can see them both (mum's asthmatic and usually ends up hospitalised if not given anti-bs soon after getting sick).

Wow I'm impressed by the cheering, and the idea of outfits, although my dcs are showing no interest in HSM as yet am hoping they catch the bug, I love musicals.

Stretch · 11/02/2009 20:13

Wow! That's really cool! DD1 does cheerleading after school, but it's mostly just games and stuff. Shame because she really wants to do it properly.

Your DD3 sounds really ill, bless her.

psychomum5 · 11/02/2009 20:19

I am now in bed with her nursing her...............have had dinner, she is not well, and wants to cuddle me. hence, I am sat in bed, she is camping next to me, and we have harry potter on.........and DS2 is next to me on the otherside!

ho hum, tis the life of mums or poorly ones it seems.

stretch, ring round and see if anywhere does cheerleading. it seems to be getting quite popular now since HSM
