I often wonder when I read this forum title, how many you need to have a 'big' family.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mrsdisorganised · 01/02/2009 19:39

I think 4+ children....could be wrong though

MUM41plus5 · 01/02/2009 20:43

we now have a family of 5 after giving birth to our twin boys june last year, we are both educated people, my husband is a managing director in his own company, we are both physically, emotionally and financially stable to support our family so seeing as we are not relying on anyones help or support I feel it would be unfare to say the least, to refer our family as wrong, big maybe but not wrong :-) this is my first day registered with this site and cant seem to manage smileys, also I think I can work out some of the abrieviations but a few pointers would be nice please :-)

mrsdisorganised · 01/02/2009 20:53

Very jealous Mum41plus5! Have been ttc #5 but it's not happeneing and dh is beginning to give up....large famillies are lovely, I'm one of 8!

spongebrainbigpants · 01/02/2009 21:05

Mum41plus5, don't think anyone was saying you were wrong were they?!

Think the OP was just asking what constituted 'big' - no judgement attached.

MrsMattie · 01/02/2009 21:06

I'd say 4 or more.

daftpunk · 01/02/2009 21:08

i have 4..i'd say a big family is 5+ dc..

4 is pretty normal.

Tigerschick · 01/02/2009 21:12

I'd agree with 4+.
I have quite a few friends with 3, and I don't think of them as having 'lots'.

Mum41plus5 - have a look next to the box where you type your messages - there is a list telling you how to do the different faces. There used to be an acronym list at the top - I'm guessing that it is now in 'useful stuff' ... you've joined us just as the site has had a huge overhaul so I'm not 100% certain where things are anymore. Hope you are here to stay

Tigerschick · 01/02/2009 21:14

Oh- and, Mu41plus5 - I agree with spongebrains, no one is saying that there is anything 'wrong' with having a big family.

BananaSkin · 01/02/2009 21:21

MUM41plus5 what are you talking about? I would love a larger family and just wondering what people on here perceive as a larger family

OP posts:
MUM41plus5 · 01/02/2009 21:23

ours was planned for 4 but after 3 girls when our scan revealed twin boys we were as you could imagine over the moon although we had decided our 4th would be our last just happened to be 2 and 4 became 5. Thanks for the tips Tigerschick and yes, seems to be some interesting and knowledgable discussions and advise on this site so would love to stay

BananaSkin · 01/02/2009 21:23

Actually I think you were referring to mrsdisorganised and her comment. No, she meant she may be wrong to think that people on here think that 4 children make up a large family.

Oh you'll have fun on here ...

OP posts:
juuule · 01/02/2009 21:26

I think 5+.

mrsdisorganised · 01/02/2009 21:28

OOOhh sorry Mum41plus5...didn't mean to confuse! Not good with words sometimes, BananaSkin is right! (thanks)!

RiaParkinson · 01/02/2009 21:32

Anything less than what you have seems small

Had four at lunch yesterday and it seemed sooo calm!

Four+ I would say..

On the larger family threads we welcome anyone though !

MUM41plus5 · 01/02/2009 21:34

mrsdisorganised, you are a woman after my own heart, I am the youngest of 7 and wouldn't want it any other way and apologies if it came across that I felt it was insinuated my big family was wrong but it was actually mrsdisorganised comment that 4+ could be wrong but having read your profile I realise thats not quite what was meant hope all is forgiven, must do a profile but again no idea how, must be baby brain still after 6 months

juuule · 01/02/2009 21:36

"Anything less than what you have seems small"

That's a very good observation, RiaP.

mrsdisorganised · 01/02/2009 21:39

Yay! You got the smileys (took me ages and i've only just learned to link!)! Apology accepted!

RiaParkinson · 01/02/2009 21:53

mum41+5 WELCOME!

I am mum41+6!!

I love 3 girls then 2 boys sounds lovely

MUM41plus5 · 01/02/2009 22:07

Hello RiaParkinson, thanks for the welcome. my 41 applies to my age and yes I do think life really begins at 40 and obviously the 5 my precious offspring, do you have girls, boys, both? would love to know, its nice getting to know people in a similar situation although having looked at some of the different topics on mumsnet I think I could have an imput on most as so many are familiar to me as you could imagine 41 with 5 children

RiaParkinson · 01/02/2009 22:15

yes i am 41 with 6

5 boys 1 girl

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 22:23

For this section the consensus is 4 I believe

I'd love more but not going to happen- DH but for sensible reasons. Only know 3 other people with 4 though, not a lot!

Madmentalbint · 02/02/2009 11:53

I think 4+ is a larger family. It is round here anyway as most families seem to have 2 DC's. I am biased though and like to think of my family as a big family (4 DC's)

I'm still thinking about no.5 so you never know!

notmyfault · 02/02/2009 15:40

4+ I think.About when it gets hard work. And you have to get the bigger car.And the family size pack of well everything. And people tell you I don't know how you do it.And they have to ask if you have a telly. However 5 kids was where it all went pear shaped,we never recovered from the chaos, and we no longer care.
