Hello.
I have 2 DDs and DH would like another but I am undecided. (Definately do not want 7 though ) Any thoughts on having more than the standard two. Should I go for it? I am one of three, so know what it feels like to be in a larger family.

Congratulations by the way to those with new babies.

Congrats on your new addition LG&T

Not sure how old your other children are but could they make their own lunchboxes the night before?

Madmentalbint · 02/02/2009 12:01

largeginandtonic - I feel your pain with the lunchboxes (only 4 DC's but OH takes a packed lunch too)

I make 5 every morning and sometimes it feels like groundhog day! No sooner do I fill the lunchboxes up, the little darlings empty them again! Maybe I'll do as Juuule suggests and get the older ones to make their own - but then again, I know I'd probably miss doing it!

newpup Go for it!

idobelieveinfairies · 03/02/2009 19:16

Congratulations LG&T

Yes lunchboxes are a pain..i make 4 every morning and then give the older 2 canteen money as i really don't want to make 6 every morning. In september it goes up to 5 lunch boxes and 3 with canteen money. But that will also mean all mine will be finally at school Yeeahhhhh!!!!

Body ok, bit saggy in places, no actual medical problems though...you have to keep up and be strict with the pelvic floors to help lessen the risk of bladder incontinence and other such lovely things when older though.

Wow - I didn't realise there were so many mums with big families around on MN.

Can I be cheeky? I'm wondering if the mums with big families come from big families themselves? I've noticed a pattern in my family and was just wondering...

idobelieveinfairies · 03/02/2009 19:25

My mkum had 5..her mum had 6....i am hoping none of my children want to go bigger than mine

largeginandtonic · 03/02/2009 19:44

I am 1 of 4,i always wanted 5.

I should train the twins in lunch boxes but oh my the rubbish they would put in

Am very of you fairy,i am craving work recently. I look forward to them all being at school. Although am seriously enjoying the snuggling newborn lying on me atm

RipMacWinkle · 03/02/2009 20:09

My extended family is made up of large families. Thinking LG&T size or bigger
but so far none of my siblings or cousins has gone any larger than 3. And most have only 2. Wondered if being in a big family can sometimes put you off having one...

Interesting any way.

And very lovely to read about all of yours

KayHarker · 03/02/2009 21:31

Not a big family initially. Grew up with just me and my brother. Eventually, when my parents divorced, I had step and half-siblings, but never really saw them. Dh is one of two boys. really, really enjoying them atm, and wishing I could have another physically.

Someone give me a manly pat on the back, I'm a bit teary

Is the no. of children you want related to the size of family you come from?

procrastinatingparent · 04/02/2009 17:21

I'm one of two, DH one of four, and we always wanted four (which is the number we have been blessed with!). I always felt growing up that our family was a bit too boringly small and neat, and yearned for a bit of chaos. Now I have the chaos I have to remind myself sometimes that it was my choice and that many many people don't have a choice at all about the size of their families.

Both of us were ambivalent about stopping at four but decided to stop, mostly for medical reasons. We did confess to each other the other day that we would have been tempted to go on against medical advice - but steps have already been taken ... We know lots of people with larger families than ours, so we think four is quite restrained, really. Around here the official number of children seems to be three - more middle class than two, but not as expensive or time-consuming as four.

I don't think I will ever stop wishing for another newborn, though. I get teary just thinking about mine when they were so little, and I am famously unsentimental.

idobelieveinfairies · 04/02/2009 19:36

Awww LG&T....i would actually rather have a newborn lying on me.....oh how i miss newborns...i hinted at dp the other night about when how i have lost a bit of weight i am getting my clips taken off....he actually gave me a smile...so i think i'm in there!!!

am very of you, give your newest DD a big squeeze from me

sparklesandwine · 06/02/2009 17:05

i'm one of 3, dp is one of 5 (although his parents split and his siblings are from his parents subsequent marriages iykwim)

we have 5 DC and are undecided about whether to have any more but probably not, maybe when DD2 is older we might think about it again
