Have been told no homebirth for Baby no 5

Booked in with midwife just over a week ago, and mentioned I would like a homebirth for number 5 as had one for number 4 which was problem free. She seemed fine about it. However, when my scan date came through a few days later it said I had a consultant appointment which I thought was odd as have had 4 problem free pregnancies and births. Anyway after having scan I saw the consultant who said that because baby no 5 the birth will be high risk and a homebirth isn't an option. I really had my heart set on a homebirth in June, and know I can put my foot down and insist but because she used the words 'high risk' it has me worried even though I hate the thought of a hospital birth and being away from my other children. Just hoping someone really may have been through this/had homebirth for no 5.

Have a look at this: www.homebirth.org.uk/multipara.htm Everything on that website is very well researched.

Ask why u are high risk the same happen to me but I asked for a review to see how big baby is n if normal size will be having a home birth as my second was problem free so don't know why they are going on first it really upset me to as my partner wants a hb I try to make him involved as possible 🙆

BloodyDogHairs · 05/04/2016 11:45

Research the risks, make a choice.

prettywhiteguitar · 19/06/2016 12:39

Did you have any pph after your last one ? Even a small amount ? I had a small loss with no.2 and a perfect labour, it was lovely but no.3 I went into shock and they couldn't stop the bleeding. Sometimes they don't fully go into it with you, they certainly didn't with me but it was on my notes.

gingermopped · 03/08/2016 07:52

I had number 6 as a homebirth, consultant said i couldnt but at end of day it was my decision!
U cant b told what to do, only advised xx

Mummyme87 · 03/08/2016 07:57

You are classed as a grand multip when you have pregnant with your 5th baby and there is a slight increase in chance of post part in haemorrhage.. This is why you would be classed as high risk. However, if you are otherwise low risk, normal BMI then most home births are agreed.

Absolute RUBBISH !! I trained as a m.wife, the fact that uve had other normal deliveries only goes in ur favour, there is a Slight increased risk of haemorrhage after a fifth delivery. As long as ur iron levels are good and u are not miles and miles from a hospital u shud Definitely put ur foot down. They r merely there to advice , they Can Not refuse to attend ur home birth. I would ask to see a different consultant who will support ur decision. People do it all the time, so dnt worry about being 'difficult'. Ive just done it and no1 batted an eye.
I am pregnant with my fifth (prev home births) ive changed my care over to a different hospital, slightly further away, as i wanted to giv birth in their midwifery led unit (last 1 was a section) otherwise id b having a home birth for sure. Ive spoken to a number of midwives who suggested having this one at home anyway (but there is a small risk of scar rupture) so I ddnt want to take th chance.
Go with what u want , its ur baby, ur body , ur birth experience x

They can't 'make' you do anything - remember that. If they insist there are risks ask what they are and for the data to back it up. Do your own research and make an informed decision.
