Ok so how fast was your fourth birth?

My third was 2hours from first contraction to birth, though it was a water birth which takes a little longer once in the water.

The antenatal m/w said my 3rd could either be really awkward and protracted or really fast & furious. It was the latter and shockingly so.

What have been your 4th birth experiences, specifically?

I was in active labour on my fourth for 44 minutes. Of hell I may add. My 3rd dc was 22minutes and slid out on the second push . He was a long skinny thing, whereas dc4 was a lb heavier and facing outwards. Still, much quicker than the first two.

misdee · 27/11/2008 14:34

5hours from waking in labout to birth.

second stage recorded as 7mins.

sorkycake · 27/11/2008 16:09

hmm, I suspect it might be quick again then.

7 minutes misdee

How's no.4 fitting in?

oh she is adorable. am completely besotted with her.

just ignore the fact she is currently being harry potter and is asleep under ther stairs. in her pram, not in a cupboard lol.

sweetkitty · 27/11/2008 16:15

my third was 95 mins from oh my waters have just gone until baby out, if I ever have a fourth am going to try and get under an hour

misdee - so 4 girls is fab then

sorkycake · 27/11/2008 16:16

We joked to ds1 that when the baby comes he'll have to sleep under the stairs until we find a bigger house.
Not bothered in the slightest, though I think he thinks it's a precursor to becoming a wizard

Glad to hear you're all well.

About 10hrs. My fastest labour was my second, at four hours.

lindenlass · 27/11/2008 18:05

dd1 8h
dd2 a day of prelabour, 5h from strong reg contractions
dd3 a day of prelabour, 3h from strong reg contractions
dd4 3h from first contraction to birth with no prelabour.

I've got four girls too :-) It's fab! Very pink and sparkly [grin

weblette · 27/11/2008 18:09

#3 was 1hr start to finish, #4 was half an hour longer.

peanutbutterkid · 27/11/2008 18:34

All day mild ctx, started to step up a gear in the evening. By midnight I was ringing the MWs... homebirth at 3am.

So er, not particularly fast at all!!

psychomum5 · 27/11/2008 18:37

7hrs 35mins from start to finish- ie delivery the placenta - the same as my first birth (well, active labour at least).

I was induced tho, so from time of gel being put in to birth was 12hrs almost to the minute!

Sorky, I am concerned about this too. My third labour was less than 45 mins from first contraction to birth and midwife arrived at home at the same time as DS3. DC4 due at the beginning of Feb (same month as you). Have been told that I should stay at home for this one too , however shortage of midwives means that one is unlikely to get there in time. DH is a doctor but not a midwife/obstetrician etc. I guess I just need to trust that it will all be ok {crosses fingers and legs} ?

Fiveplusbump · 27/11/2008 19:56

6 hours start to finish .

weblette · 28/11/2008 11:43

Laidback, my #3 was delivered by paramedics, they arrived just as he was crowning as the "once in a blue moon" of both community teams being on other deliveries happened and everything was going too fast for us to get to hospital by car.

If midwives won't get to you in time, call 999 instead. While your dh may be a doc, they have the resus equipment and more up-to-date training. In our case a midwife arrived 35mins after the baby did to do all the paperwork.

lumpsdumps · 28/11/2008 19:17

3 hours and 10 minutes, would have been quicker if he hadn't kept bungee jumping back in due to very short cord. Was the shortest cord the midwife had seen in 24 years of delivering babies. Thankfully no stitches as they were brilliant with telling me I could delivering him without a cut.

PeachyAndTheSucklingBas · 28/11/2008 19:19

35 minutes from time I realised to delivery. no idea second stage but if jofeb from here hadnt been there would have had to deliver myself due to chatting mw as was so quick but never had 2nd stage more than a few minutes or so

GaribaldiGirl · 30/11/2008 14:42

about 2 hours from start to finish for number 4. didn't have to push at all, was actually trying to hold him in because i didn't fancy experiencing that crowning moment (having experienced it 3 times before). baby shot out without me participating. gosh what does that say about the state of my undercarriage???? must do pelvic floor exercises......

SleighGirl · 30/11/2008 14:48

officially 2 mins, but about 5 hours of pain before that point from the induction gel - once I finally started to dilate it was incredibly quick, I think 3 contractions, 8 cm, crowned, here.........

mumsanutter · 11/12/2008 19:44

No 3 was 16 minutes from start to finish, number 4 was 3 minutes from when my waters broke (length of time is usually measured from when my waters break) but was the first time that I had contractions before they broke - so about 2 hours of real pain
