Telling people about no.4, why is it beyond the realm of reason that this one might actually be planned ?!?!

Almost everyone has looked shocked when told we are expecting no.4

Not sure why as I'm not expecting them to look after the child, but anyway....most people have assumed that the pg is a shock to us, unplanned if you will.

So many people have asked if the pg is unplanned I've now started to agree and say "well we were a bit surprised" because when I said "no it's very much planned" they looked horrified, as if I had killed their cat.

Is it so unbelievable to have planned no.4? Should I just brazen it out and take the pitying looks thrown our way?

speaking of which, why do people feel its within their right to enquire re contraception choices ?!!?

if one more person asks if dh is getting the snip I may just starting announcing he's already had it and none of the kids are his

thefabfour · 16/06/2008 21:06

Dizzy- love your response to the snip question. I might even use it myself when next asked

The one which stumps me is when I get told that I am just simply 'fantastic'. Why, becasue I have 4 DC or because I look after them all by myself?? Er, yeah..

dizzydixies · 16/06/2008 21:10

lol thanks fabfour - loving the name btw

sorkycake · 16/06/2008 21:12

dizzy v good.

Have met up with a lot of people who have all been very congratulatory.

family and colleagues for me - twats, probably just worried they'll either have to fork out or jealous that they're not getting paid maternity leave because as we all know when you're getting £100 a week you can go wild and treat yourselves

sorkycake · 16/06/2008 21:39

I know the first thing I think of is ooh family allowance, how many pairs of shoes will that buy me.

Actually on the subject how do you afford all the feckin shoes? Wellies, sandals and trainers for each of them....and what do they do almost all the time, go barefoot!

hand them all down in this house - well if they're in reasonable nick that it, dd1 is pretty harsh on her shoes and dd2 looks to be going the same way

I always seem to somehow find myself happening upon a child shoe shop when there is a (very rare and few and far between) grandmother visiting too

bigcar · 16/06/2008 22:00

Oh yes, shoes. Once you've forked out for all the shoes you have to find somewhere to put them all, even a 4 shelf shoe rack leaves shoes all over the floor and a mountain on top. Then once you've done that, you've got all the coats and jackets, you can barely make it up my stairs now, the box with the hats, gloves and scarfs lives on the bend in the stairs, I wouldn't mind but the gloves go the same way the socks do. My kids look very trendy, odd socks and odd gloves And with 3 girls they never have enough shoes and coats, thank goodness for poor ds, he's quite happy with only the one coat!

I've told people I can't afford for dh to be away from home for a vasectomy what with so many kids so I'm going to do it myself with a couple of house bricks.

dizzydixies · 16/06/2008 22:05

a la camel style bigcar? classy

bigcar · 16/06/2008 22:07

Spot on! Moi classy, well of course

kitbit · 16/06/2008 22:16

LOL bigcar EEEEEK!
I actually overheard someone asking a pregnant mum with 2 little ones (who looked about 2 and 4 ish)in the trolley at the checkout the other day if they all had the same father. WTF?? Poor love was so taken aback she didn't know what to say. How blardy rude I couldn't believe it! Even if they did, what business is it of hers??? Even more bonkers because the two in the trolley looked almost identical apart from their ages.
Daft old bat.

dizzydixies · 16/06/2008 22:27

I have an inkling that people, when they get to a 'certain' age believe that they are exempt from basic manners and that getting their bus pass issued removes them from common curtosey and politeness - only some mind you

sorkycake · 17/06/2008 08:12

I've kept all shoes that still had life in them, thank god. It does mean you can't get in my loft because of 6 years worth of clothing & shoes however.

tres classy bigcar

over your loft sorky, we have a converted cottage thing so technically the rood space is now our bedrooms - the dumping spare room will be the nursery within the next few weeks so am either going to have to cull the hand me downs or beg some roof space of relatives

ButterflyMcQueen · 17/06/2008 22:32

i am with you over the vasectomy thing
all the time
plus people always asking if we are having more.......why ? are you?

estar · 18/06/2008 12:42

I get with my four ds - 'Oooo, did you want a girl?'

'No, I wanted four dcs.'

'Oh.'

I think that's the only explanation they can come up with why we had four - the knowledge that it was always actually the plan for us is what makes them look at us like we're insane.

It must be a personality thing though. I remember going to see 'Cheaper By The Dozen' with three or four of my female friends (when I only had ds1) and saying on the way out, 'That was fantastic - didn't it make you want to have 12 children?'

They all stopped and looked at me in horror.

mummypig · 18/06/2008 12:51

oh congratulations sorky and sorry about all the comments, I like g&t's approach. People seem to think that someone's pregnancy enables them to make comments like this. I can't believe I've had comments like 'so are you going for a football team?' and I'm only expecting ds3 ffs.

I like dizzy's answer to the snip question .
