i just want to get a general idea if we are paying way over the average or not,so im looking to find out how much families of a similar size pay per quater.

we are a family of 2 adults and 5 children(age 1-10),living in a 3 storey,4 bedroom house.

i have been told that our consuption has increased in the last 3 months, but if anything it should have gone down as i got rid of the electric cooker+replaced it with a gas one, plus i have got a new washing machine(other one was old and not energy-efficient).

TIA

Crikey, we are frugal. About £30/month, 6 people. That includes cooking, and hot water in summer.

agirlandtwoboys · 31/08/2008 23:17

2 adults
3 kids
1 dog, 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs if they all count.
Large 5 bed Georgian (circa1850) detached. Recently extended.
Previously £600/month gas
£200/month elec
new appliances now, all much more energy eff.
Will see what happens

I think we pay around 3.6k a year so around 300 a month for both. Detached house with no cavity wall insulation, have 5 beds, 5 rooms downstairs and large hall. Do have double glazing though.

NotAnOtter · 31/08/2008 23:28

we pay 340 for both

victorian end terrace

I'm finding these figures scary.

Our last quarterly bill was £188 for both gas and electricity. There are 6 of us at home now.

Lisa38 · 26/10/2008 12:27

we pay £160 on gas and electric per month thats for a 4 bedroom house,

MuAHAHAHAHAHmi · 26/10/2008 13:15

No more than 90 per quarter on electric, so about 30 per month for just me and DS in a 2 bedroom terrace, including all cooking.

Not sure about the gas as we're on a meter but I think it's about the same even when we've got the central heating on because of double glazing

MuAHAHAHAHAHmi · 26/10/2008 13:21

Oops, just saw this came up under larger families so probably not very relevant, sorry!

Troutpout · 26/10/2008 13:25

43 quid per month

aGalChangedHerName · 26/10/2008 13:31

We have a 4 bed detached with a playroom.

Our gas went from £77 to £124 a month and electric from £123 to £148 a month.

Have switched from scottish gas to Eon and not using drier etc. Hope it makes a difference!!!

aGalChangedHerName · 26/10/2008 13:33

Oh and we have 2 adults and 4dc's.

LouMacca · 26/10/2008 13:47

Large 3 bed semi.

2 adults
2 children

£65 per month for gas. £75 per month for electric.

sorkycake · 27/10/2008 12:43

3 bed, cavity wall done, semi.

5 of us until Feb when there'll be 6.
leccy is £79 pm with Good Energy
gas is £60 pm with Eon.

Think it's bloody extortionate given how much we actually use!

RantinEminor · 27/10/2008 13:11

Asking others what they pay isn't going to be very useful for you, there are too many variables - different tarrifs, different suppliers, different patterns of behaviour, different property types, different appliances, energy eff. measures etc etc.

If you are really concerned about how much you are spending on electricity, you need to find out exactly how much electricity you actually use and then look at ways in which you could reduce that usage. If you can do that, monitor it and be rigorous about it your bill will come down.
