Just curious really as dh and I are teetering on the edge..although our 3 are still very young [4,2,14mths] but I think we will ttc in the next 6mths or so..just wondered what major things changed and why going to 4 seems soooo much bigger than going to 3!!
We have a zafira, the double pram but only a small 3 bed semi with no chance of moving but I said to dh we could swap rooms with the girls as ours is bigger.

Dinny think i know what you mean. I felt sure something would go horribly wrong cos i already had 3 perfect dc iykwim. Never thought i would be lucky again with dc4,but i was

dinny · 25/03/2008 13:44

yes, that's what I mean exactly....

gingeme · 25/03/2008 13:44

Is that all . Yeah go for it girl...

ScoobyDoo · 25/03/2008 13:48

Go for it Nemo you sound like you & your dh want to.

I am sitting here jealous, racking my brains if we should go for no 3 let alone no 4 or 5

gingeme · 25/03/2008 13:51

Don't think about just go for it

Ceolas · 25/03/2008 14:41

I like the thinking - boys' room, girls' room, parents' room. We're feeling a bit squashed with 4 DC in our 3 bed semi, but our (92 year old) neighbour had 10 children in exactly the same house!

conniedescending · 25/03/2008 14:53

My #4 was a very welcome accident. They are now 4mths, 18mths, 3 and 5 so very close.....and we live in 3 bed semi as well. Baby is in with us at the minute but will probably put him in the single room and move DD1 in with DD2 and DD3.

After 3, number 4 is a breeze!

mrbojangles · 25/03/2008 15:00

We were in a two bedroom cottage with 4ds. three in one double room and ds4 in with us. We moved out when ds4 was 18months. We now have a four bed cottage and although It is great having more space the thing I like best is having more storage space. The boys still through choice will go in together and dp and I wonder why we morgaged up to the hilt for one bedroom often empty. Dont be put off by space I think people put so much empathsis on everyone having there own room when a much better quality to have, is the ability to share and respect others need at times for there own space rather than some god-given right. As for a car we have a 15year old toyota emina 7 seater and its great.
You sound like a fourth child would fit very well into your family. good luck

Pollyanna · 25/03/2008 15:22

Dinny I know how you feel. I am pg with no 5 and really feel that I am due some bad luck with this one. I think LTH wrote about this recently. I feel like she did when pg with no 4 - that something is imminently about to go wrong.

We have 4 bedrooms in use atm (do have a loft, but no money to convert yet) and 4 children so far (no 5 due this week) - not sure how they are all going to share yet.

Ceolas · 25/03/2008 17:50

Pushing my luck... That's just how I felt with number 4. I didn't want to tell anyone til about 12 weeks.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 25/03/2008 17:55

gosh pollyanna did not know you were so imminent

do you know what you are having?

CrackerOfNuts · 25/03/2008 18:00

I always wanted 4, right from when I was little. I think sometimes you just know.

I wanted another straight after Ds but had problems when pregnant with him, so didn't try, and then obviously me and xp split so now I just have the 3.

If i never have another it will always be one of my biggest regrets.

AlwaysTheMummy · 25/03/2008 18:14

Wow I love the thought of having a large family, I come from the 1-2 child family also and want to break the tradition , we are currently on dc2 who is only 13 weeks old but not currently using contraception so who knows

We live in a 2 bedroom house and are in the process of converting the large bathroom into an upstairs toilet and 3rd bedroom and putting the bathroom back downstairs where it used to be, we would still have the option of convertin the loft but it might turn out to be quite expensive

xx

We have 4 DCs who were 6, 4 and 2 when DD was born last July.we always wanted 4 and planned it. There was 22 mos bet. the 1st 3 and slightly more bet. 3 and 4. We planned to have them close in age It's great but really exhausting, although now easier that the 2nd started fulltime school in January. I didn't think that 4 could be much harder than 3 - I had 3 under 4s and that was hard. But it does seem quite a lot more work. We got a Multipla that didn't cost the earth, we live off one - not very big - NHS salaryand we're really happy. Our 2 DDs share a room and the baby and DS have their own rooms. What we didn't factor in was that although the 1st 3 were fantastic sleepers and eaters, DD4 was - IS! - dreadful and wakeful at night. When you have a busy and long day it is a nightmare, She's also not a great eater..but ho humm, wouldn't change a thing. Nosiy, chaotic, lots of arguing but lots of laughter too!

dinny · 25/03/2008 18:46

is 2-3 really hard? sorry to hijack this, Nemo

Pollyanna, wowee, five, how lovely

Nemoandthefishes · 25/03/2008 19:57

dinny I didnt find 2-3 really hard the only killer I find now is the lack of sleep as they are all still young and ds only just started sleeping through so I still get up with both dds quite a lot each night.
I find the actual dealing with 3 is ok..although too many little people for one set of hands..lol

So nemo have you made up yourmind ?

mama4 · 25/03/2008 22:00

Nemo think very carefuly before making the leap and if you decide you want another make sure you try when your youngest is 2.5 of age. I thought I was doing the right thing as I wanted another girl after having 2 boys after my girl now i got an 8,5,2,2month old. I should have waited as life is hectic at the mo. And NO its not a girl its a boy.

I might go for number5 after 4 years though....you never know it might just be a girl

kittywise · 25/03/2008 22:04

For me 4 was the difference between having a social life and not. With three I was not too tired and go out, entertain etc. Once number 4 came that was it.
I now have 6 btw

MarsLady · 25/03/2008 23:01

We always wanted 4 but could never afford them so stopped at 2. The third ignored the contraception and the fourth and fifth were the result of champagne sangria on holiday and one night of unprotected "let's have a fourth" sex!

I don't regret the wee weapons of mass destruction aka the DTs a bit!

tiredmumov4 · 26/03/2008 15:34

i just didnt feel done at 3 so went for number 4 think im done now although doc turned oh down for the snip as he didnt sound definite enough re having no more kids..so maybe....just maybe...........

waggledancer · 26/03/2008 16:25

I have 2 teenagers and 2 under 3yrs. We have a 4 bed house, oldest 2 have their own rooms and youngest 2 share. When youngest 2 get older we will have to re-jig bedrooms as DD has biggest room, but she is part time resident only due to boyfriend and social life.

We have a Honda FRV, which seats 6. Bought it before DS3 was born last year and have only needed it for the whole family twice! Lovely spacious car for us and the two smalls though.

Four children is hard work, but wouldn't change it for the world.

ScienceTeacher · 26/03/2008 16:35

We always planned four children; the fifth was a bonus.

SilentTerror · 27/03/2008 11:50

Always wanted 4 too. We started young and found it a shock so have 6 yrs between 1 and 2,then 2 years between 2 and 3,which I found hard. People used to say 'any more?' after 3 and I always knew I would have another. DH didn't though!
Left it 6 years again, then when I was 38 got 'careless' with pill, not really expecting it to happen but I had to try,if that makes sense.
Got pregnant straight away with no 4.

SilentTerror · 27/03/2008 11:52

Oh,forgot to add we are lucky as we have 5 bedrooms and a seven seater Touran.
However DD1 now 18 and has her own car,so we are never all together really.
I find the washing and tidying hard tbh.
