Out of interest - what were your experiences re boy vs girl pregnancies

You hear a lot of people say their pregnancies were different whether they were carrying their sons vs their daughters, and also a lot who say there were hardly any differences!

So out of interest, if you’ve had both sexes, what were your pregnancies like?

Expecting DC4 (7+4 today) and I have been so so sick. I was also very sick with DC3 and she was a girl.

IIRC, I wasn’t too bad with DC1 (girl) a bit nauseas with DC2 (boy), horrendously nauseas with DC3 (girl) and horrendously nauseas with this one too. So it’s got worse with each pg with me, as they say it does!

I have 1 ds and 2x dd
With dc 1, I can tell you it was a 'clockwork pregnancy'. I used to read 'Emma's Diary' if anyone remembers that and everything happened in the weeks it was supposed to. There was some nausea but I wasn't really sick. I went through 3 months each of 'dreary, cheery, weary'.
When I was pregnant with dc2, I was somewhat busier - working FT and a very lively 2 yr old so don't remember the same level of detail Grin but, overall, there was no difference in pregnancy symptoms and no way of telling if I was carrying a boy or a girl.

1 of each and pregenancies more or less the same, born same wk gestation as well. (between34-35.)

PowPurry · 15/08/2020 11:24

Yes I remember Emma’s Diary @BackforGood, it’s not that old is it?!

That’s interesting you’ve both said not much difference. We’re not going to find out so I’ll be playing the guessing game for the duration!

I don't know how long it ran for PowPurry - or even if it still does. So many things seem to have changed since I was reading it in 1995/96, I just presumed it would have gone by the way too.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/08/2020 14:03

While carrying DS I was told I was carrying a girl because apparently I had gained weight everywhere except my bump. But the truth is I am big hipped and was on a carefully calorie controlled diet (have pcos) and so had barely gained 5kg by the end of my pregnancy; and so only looked like I had gained weight to strangers.

The only stereotype I did fit was second trimester sickness. Apparently women carrying boys are much more likely to start morning sickness in the second trimester like I did (that’s when testosterone builds up).

TheCanyon · 15/08/2020 14:22

Dd1 didn't even know I was pregnant until 29 weeks when I had horrendous heartburn. Dd2 was sick as he'll until about 16 weeks then had horrendous heartburn. Boy/girl dts sick a couple of times and really bad heartburn

Himawarigirl · 22/08/2020 14:57

Sick for 6 months with DD, difficult birth but she was my first. Not sick at all with DS1 and he popped out, sick for 24 weeks with DS2 before my epilepsy played up and it all got rather messy. But no clear boy/girl difference.

Himawarigirl · 22/08/2020 14:59

Would say that I carried far lower with both boys though, but that may be because my muscles had given up!

HarrietM87 · 22/08/2020 15:06

Had such an easy first pregnancy with my son. No morning sickness, no aches and pains, totally sailed through it.

Pregnant with a girl now and it’s been awful. Horrendous morning sickness for 4 months, scary random bleeds, acne, exhaustion and now think I’ve got PGP. My pre pregnancy weight was the same both time and I was 30 vs 32 so I don’t think it’s age related.

Gin4thewin · 22/08/2020 15:11

With ds, certain foods set me off, sickness wasn't unbearable but stopped 18 weeks. DD if i didn't eat every 2 hours i couldn't move for sickness, everything made me sick and i had a complete food adversion for pretty much everything except very buttery toast and pepperoni pizza. I definitely felt worse sickness wise with her

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 22/08/2020 15:13

Two girls for me but two totally different pregnancies. First was lovely, second I had two months off work with sickness!

PowPurry · 22/08/2020 15:28

So interesting! But it does sound like generally we are a lot sicker with the girls!
@HarrietM87 I had my first ever pregnancy bleed on Thursday. Absolutely terrifying but had a scan today and luckily everything looks ok! My acne is horrendous, all over my chest and neck too. I’d love another boy but judging by how I feel it’s pointing more towards a girl!

We have a 2 girls and a boy and I'm currently pregnant with our second boy. Each of my pregnancies have been pretty much identical. So far I've given birth at 40+1, 39+6 and 39+5 and they've weighed 6lb 13.5oz, 7lb and 7lb 1oz so all very similar!

PowPurry · 30/08/2020 10:07

Congratulations @Crazymummyto3 that’s amazing!

4 boys and 1 girl- the pregnancy Felt much harder with my girl and the sickness was awful at the start. She was my fifth though so being a bit older and more knackered might have contributed but I was super fit when I fell pregnant with her so I thought I’d be feeling great.

ShivD · 05/09/2020 18:46

I should also say, I thought my pregnancies with my boys were different but not to the level that DDs was.

PowPurry · 20/10/2020 10:38

Just to update this - we ended up finding out and interestingly It’s a boy Grin

So for me personally it’s just been a case of the sickness getting worse with each pregnancy!

Girl: some sickness
Boy : no sickness
Boy: no sickness

Levels of HGH are higher with female foetus’

Mother2princess · 26/10/2020 22:46

Girls all sick

Pregnant with gender unknown and no sickness

BikeRunSki · 26/10/2020 22:51

I have one DS and one DD.
I had by Hyperemisis in both pg, and both ended in emcs. They were pretty similar. I’d say the hg was worse in the second, but that might be because I also had a 2 year old to look after.

Changeofseason · 05/11/2020 12:40

Boy: no sickness, easy pregnancy
Girl: some nausea, rough sailing
Boy: no sickness, insomnia

isadorapolly · 15/11/2020 23:02

All of my girls I was sick as a dog, all day, every day, the whole way through Envy lost weight and looked very pale and was SO emotional.

My boys were pretty textbook, some sickness at the beginning but nothing extreme and I felt pretty normal.

I have 4 boys and 3 girls and have just found out I’m having another Shock this is the only one that was totally unplanned. Im only 5 weeks but have felt nauseous for the last week or so and it’s getting worse every day, and for some reason watched the curious case of Benjamin button last night and cried my heart out at the end! Big fat sobs! So I’m guessing this one is a girl too!

I know scientifically there’s no evidence to say girls make you more sick but for me personally it’s the case x

BurningBenches · 16/11/2020 11:21

@powpurry I've found the same that the sickness has got worse with each pregnancy.

Dd1 - no MS horrendous heartburn
Dd2 - no MS, SPD & horrendous heartburn
Dd3 - no MS, worse SPD, heartburn that caused me to vomit.
DS - some nausea, no SPD, heartburn and restless legs
Currently 10+2 with unknown and have had constant nausea, vomiting.

Equally, to contrast another wives tale, all my babies have been totally bald 😂 so the hairy and heartburn was not true here.
