Anyone had lots of c sections?

Positive stories please! How did they compare? What were your age gaps? Had my first baby by cs 6 months ago and always wanted a big family but worried this may have hindered it.

I have had 3 c sections. The first was EMCS the others were ELCS. At the third I was advised to be sterilised and was.

Recovery from the first was hard until stitches were absorbed. The only problem was after the 3rd but that was because I had a chest infection and coughing after abdominal surgery is not a laughing matter.

1 emcs and 3 elcs here. There is a 2 year age gap between dc1 and dc2, a 3 year age gap between dc2 and dc3 and a 15 month age gap between dc3 and dc4. All 4 sections went smoothly with no complications but an extra surgeon was required with dc4 because he was my 4th section and incase they encountered problems. Dc were all large, they ranged between 9lb and 11lb 6ozs.

Bumping for you as also interested. PP does that mean you got pregnant with dc4 when dc3 was only 6 months? I thought you had to wait 18 months?

Heismyopendoor · 14/05/2020 20:16

biscuit you don’t have to. My first I was told to wait a year, second and third I wasn’t told to wait anything.

Op, I’ve had three sections. First one was an emergency. Laboured for a long time and then dd got stuck and heart rate dropped and she pooped inside me. So was whipped away for a section. Was told similar things would happen so was happy to go for sections with two and three. Doctor told me after the third that I looked good inside and could do a fourth if I wanted.

There is three and a half years between dc1 and dc2 and then 17 months between dc2 and dc3.

handmedownqueen · 14/05/2020 20:19

I’ve had five
18 months 3 years 4 years 18 month gap
Probably shouldn’t had had 5th one
But all well and I’m in reasonable shape since last baby now 13!

Phillipa12 · 14/05/2020 21:12

biscuit was not told to wait. We started trying for dc4 and got pregnant straight away despite dc3 being exclusively breastfed, i was also 39 at the time so didnt want to wait too long. My sister had an emcs with her first and then fell pregnant with twins which were delivered via elcs and her age gap is 13 months.

BabyLlamaZen · 15/05/2020 12:49

These are positive, thank you! I was told a year to wait but the dr just said it as a passing comment then walked off. @phillipa12 did you find recovery any worse or was their much scar tissue? I think because I'm considering trying for vbac I need to wait at least the year. I'd be trying for vbac more because I'm scared I can't have lots of c sections but you're making me feel more positive.

Recovery after dc2 was not good, i did too much too soon and got a couple of infections. I learnt my lesson and recovery after dc3 and 4 was very quick as i sat on my arse for 2 weeks and only looked after baby my now ex husband did everything else. As for scar tissue the surgeons went through my old scar each time and they were all equally surprised at the lack of scar tissue, that im putting down to luck.

Ginfilledcats · 15/05/2020 13:04

I was talking to a woman the other day in MAU and she was on her 6th and all of them had been sections. She had 3 under 3 then a 3 year gap, then this was the 3rd again under 3. She was super skinny and small too! Very happy mum and baby!

weebarra · 15/05/2020 13:07

3 EMCS here. Recovery from the last was hard as I had a lot of adhesions.

littlejalapeno · 15/05/2020 13:10

Thanks for this thread. I didn’t realise but I needed to hear some positive experiences. I had a bad birth with an emcs 18 months ago. I’d love to have another child but I’m terrified of giving birth and would need an elcs. But who even knows if it’s possible. I feel like the risks of multiple c sections is really stressed in the nhs leaflets I’ve read. Thanks OP for the thread and congrats to everyone

I have four. First emerg

user1496146479 · 16/05/2020 10:47

Don't know what happened there. I've had four. First an emergency, second a failed VBAC, third & Fourth elective.
Minor wound issues on 1st & 2nd. No issues on number 3. Fourth had to get wound re-stitched at 6 months post partum.

Estellelauder · 16/05/2020 10:55

3 here. 1st was emergency after 4 day stop start induced labour and was hardest to recover from, simply because I was tired and had lost the most blood.

2&3 were easy peasy even with toddlers running about - I had 3 children under 4 much to the horror of the village gossips but my obstetrician wasn’t remotely concerned.

No infections, no drama.

Threnody · 24/05/2020 20:00

I've had 3, first emcs due to failure to progress, 2nd failed vbac, they thought my scar was rupturing, 3rd elcs. We are trying for #4. 3rd was difficult recovery as they'd not sewn me up properly and I kept bleeding.

floridapalmtree · 28/05/2020 18:52

I have had 3. First and second EMCS. Third was ELCS as this was what the doctor said would be safer after 3 difficult births. No problems. The ELCS was by far the easiest as I hadn't had to labour for 24 hours and was therefore not exhausted.

IvysMum12 · 28/05/2020 19:15

A Consultant Obstetrician I heard about in the 1940's was a devout, practising Catholic. His wife had 8 sections. All was well.

NotIncandescentWithRage · 30/05/2020 13:18

I’ve had 6, all went well with good recoveries aftwrwards.
