Will I need a double buggy?

Hi, my second baby is due the week before my daughter turns two. Can any mums with a similar age gap advise whether they think I will need a double buggy please? Or do you think a buggy and a buggy board will be ok? I do drive so won’t be walking everywhere but will want to get out and about, particularly in the summer! My daughter will be with me most of the time (nursery two mornings a week) She is already very independent and not a huge fan of the buggy but I do still use it a fair amount at the moment with her!

I had three children under four
The almost four year old occasionally used a buggy board on the double buggy
The 21 month old was in the double buggy for quite a while for longer walks and in and out on days out

So yes I used one but others will say not

It depends on your older child, the distances and the frequency I think

I had the same age gap, we used the buggy board and had a sling for if 2yr old really needed buggy but only used it a couple of times

I'd get a double, definitely. You could manage with a single and a buggy board but it would just make days out, nap times, 2 year olds who like to run off and throw tantrums much harder to handle. Maybe you could get round it a bit with a single, buggy board and a sling then you could switch the baby to the sling if the 2 year old wants to sleep or needs to be contained.

I'd get a buggy that you can use from birth (we have a baby jogger city mini) and a sling. Then either could go in buggy without hassle of carrycots and baby could go in sling (or 2 year old in a back carry). We did this although had double buggy as baby no. 2 was twins. Our 2 year old walked a lot or went in connecta in a back carry. Now the twins are 2.5 and I use the single buggy and connecta as they mainly walk.

It depends on the older child I think. I have a gap of 2.10 and there's no way I could have managed without a double as DS1 is not a reliable walker. Plus on busy roads or when the older one is being uncooperative I like to have to have the option of knowing there is somewhere they are both safe and contained.

We have an out n about nipper and it's been great.

I had 3 under 4 and I've only just sold my double buggy and youngest is nearly 3.
I would definitely recommend having a double with 2 under 2, 2 year olds are still unpredictable so in areas with busy traffic if your by yourself it's safer to have both strapped into a buggy imo.
I had the Out and about Nipper 360 and it was great as my eldest could sit on the front step if he was tired on really long walks.

If you decide to get one, I really recommend out and about Nipper Double with carry cot.

Yes, get one. My gap was 2 years 9 months and I thought we could do without. How wrong I was!

Serafinaaa · 21/01/2020 10:06

Yes. I had a gap of 20 months and only got rid of the double when eldest started school aged 4.5 Grin

I just needed it for control and getting places quickly!

I have an age gap of 18m and used a double buggy until eldest was ablut 3.5 yrs and could reliably use a buggy board. Despite me regularly trying out the board before then, she just wasn’t ready and kept running off it. A double buggy is also great for little ones in winter weather.

23 months between mine. We got a buggy board but never used it because dc1 preferred his balance bike. Which was really lucky as we live at the top of a steep hill.
