Does anyone have this pram?

We are due DC2 in jan and DC1 will be 17 months.

Looking to hear if it's worth the money?

Gets a high score on Which! (86% I think). But is the most expensive pram on there I think. Also, it's the one with the side bit. Don't you want a double?

wasthataburp · 15/08/2018 16:43

Yes it turns from single to double

Ah ok. I'm no expert on double buggies but I know the Mountain Buggy double gets very good reviews. I'll have another look later on Which? if you like, and see which doubles get the top rating.

SoyDora · 16/08/2018 07:09

I did loads and loads of research before buying a double and decided on the Donkey. I hated it. It was so big and cumbersome and I didn’t feel like it was good enough quality for the price. I used to dread getting it out of the boot! I sold it when DD2 was 6 months old and bought a rumble seat for our vista.
On paper it really seemed like the best option but I really wish we hadn’t bothered. I know others who have loved it though.
Ps ours was in immaculate condition when we sold it so if you do decide to get one I’d look at second hand sites if I were you.

HumanParaquat · 16/08/2018 07:13

Check the width. A donkey was too wide to go through our front door, we got a Uppababy Vista with the extra rumble seat.

I've had a look on Which?

The Donkey Duo gets 81% for its newest version and is the highest-rated double on there but is more than twice the price (in fact almost 3 times the price!) of most of its closest rivals. The older version (launched 2011) only gets 65%.

Joolz Geo2 double gets 74% and is £1099.

Babyjogger City Mini GT double gets 73% and is £552.

Babystyle Oyster Max double 2 gets 72% and is £623

ICandy Apple 2 Pear gets 71% and is £595.

Mountain Buggy double gets 70% and is £499.

Those last 4 are all less than half the price of the Bugaboo Donkey (£1490) so I'd go for one of those!

1Wanda1 · 16/08/2018 10:07

Forgot Upoababy Vista: £999 and 74%

FutureMrsTempah · 16/08/2018 10:10

Uppababy vista is fab! Even though I only have one, have used it as a double when we've needed to transport ourselves and baby by train then taxi. It carries so much! You can definitely get it cheaper than £999 too!

SoyDora · 16/08/2018 10:11

Yeah those prices are a bit inflated, our Donkey was £1150 and our Vista was £750 (both John Lewis)

Helpmepleeease · 16/08/2018 10:17

I've got it. I walk everywhere so didn't have the issue of folding and unfolding it which would be a PITA.

But as someone who doesn't drive it has been mostly good. Easy to take the second seat off and covert back to a mono to fit through the front door. Both my DC napped it in and once my eldest started getting too old for it we purchased the seated buggy board and would use it as a mono.

However we have had some issues. Punctured tyres resulting in having to replace the inner tube a couple of times. One of the front wheels rattles if you ever pick up quite a speed. And lately (after 1.5yrs) our handlebar has started slightly dropping on one side which isn't that much of an issue as I simply lift it back into place a little but for the price of the donkey this should not be happening!

It is expensive and I only got it because I wanted a side by side double pushchair and that was the only one that would fit through the door as it can convert to a mono.

Lastly, I do love the side basket when it's in mono mode.

FutureMrsTempah · 16/08/2018 10:40

I'll add that after 2 years of pushing everywhere for miles and miles most days the vista is still in good nick! If I was to sell it on the back wheels may want replacing as the thinner tread has worn but otherwise it's only cosmetic stuff

MrsMarigold · 16/08/2018 10:44

New Out n About Nipper, I had the old version but it was awesome, much better than Mountain Buggy, I had that too.

FreeButtonBee · 16/08/2018 13:24

Agree that the donkey is better if you don't have to fold it frequently. I had mine for nearly 5 years (twins then a singleton) and it was brilliant. Didn't have an issue with burst tyres although did have to replace the tyres as we used it so much the trend wore through (after 3 years solid use). Buggy board (I just had the standing one, not the seat) is very useful too although I do recommend getting older one to hop off if going up a large kerb (fine for normal dropped kerbs).

I sold mine on for £450 on ebay so not a bad return on 5 years use.

wasthataburp · 16/08/2018 17:36

Thanks for all the replies! I think we have decided on the nipper because we will be getting it in and out of the
Boot a lot.
