Single buggy and a sling.

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 13/07/2017 10:39

^^ This.

I know you said doubles are too big for the car but you really could do with one for those ages. Even when the older one can walk they aren't going to be quick, will get work out fast, unreliable with darting off etc until they're nearer 2.5 or even 3.
Have you been to mothercare and asked them to try all the doubles in your boot? I wouldn't be able to cope without one with those ages!

imip · 14/07/2017 06:48

Yep, buggy and sling....

Thankfully my 18month old (who was a massive blob, albeit beautiful), started walking just before her sister was born. I had to have a c-section, and she was really not shOwing any signs of walking.

Interestingly now, she can be really lazy! That must have been it!

Congratulations!

I had a mcclaren side by side double I thibk it was called a mcclaren techno... Anyway it folded up stroller size just a bit wider it could easily fit most cars , perhaps take the parcel shelf off the boot? It was handy though I used the sling stroller option mostly.

RandomMess · 15/07/2017 21:22

Had a phil & ted and it folded up very small!

Def worth trying a sling.

TynesideBlonde · 15/07/2017 21:25

Yep- single and sling. Bloke sized rainmac for emergencies.

shamoffour · 16/07/2017 15:26

I had the same age gap as you and I really really needed my double buggy as pp said go to a shop and get advice on which one would fit in your boot. I've only stopped using mine six months ago (they are 3.11 and 2.10)
It was so useful to be able to throw them in it and run round.
I think you can get an insert for a McLaren that lets you use it from new born. I would imagine they would close quite small. You could always leave your parcel shelf off.

DoubleCarrick · 16/07/2017 15:30

Ah this advice is not what I wanted to hear! Op I'm going to have a newborn and a 13 month old in Feb! How are you finding it?

I was planning on a single buggy and a sling but I guess that will only work for about six months.

Incidentally we just got rid of my tiny car for a bigger car went from a 2003 car to a 2004. We didn't spend much

RandomMess · 16/07/2017 18:44

I have to say I couldn't imagine not having a double pushchair for all the stuff to cart about, to cope better with the weather - found wraps really hot, jealously from the baby/toddler...

I think much depends on how well you get on with slings, how much walking and nipping out you need to do etc.

I had older DC already so I found it helpful to have newborn in pushchair before even getting toddler and older child out the door!! I also loathed having 3 in car seats - the faff so walked as much as possible because it seemed less stressful.

HeyRoly · 16/07/2017 18:48

If I were you I'd find a double buggy that fits.

There are tons of sling evangelists here, but personally I found a sling totally unworkable for anything other than very short walks in fine weather. My back/hips couldn't take using a sling AT ALL beyond about 7 months due to the weight of the baby.

You'll need a buggy for longer walks, bad weather, supermarket trips, and basically anything that involves you having two arms free to deal with your older child.

mumoflukas92 · 16/07/2017 20:02

I think the buggy seems a better option with winter soon coming and it not been as restraining when running errands and I'm finding it really good not as demanding yet as I expected but obviously newborn sleep a lot the main things I've found is at 13 months my son loves to kiss and touch the baby which is lovely but he doesn't quite understand not to be so heavy handed yet. He's in his own room so he doesn't get disturbed through the night but she does wake him up on a morning and he is always trying to swap bottles! He seems really loving of her already which is amazing to see

They sound lovely together! My two boys are so close now it's amazing even though we call them the Krays!
I remember the early days well though it was hard, I very much worked on the mantra everyone fed and no one dead.
My 13 month was always touching the baby too and in the end I got a playpen I used to lie the baby in it if I needed to go anywhere or even just to give him a bit of peace safely away from his very attentive brother!

villainousbroodmare · 16/07/2017 20:27

Our buggy's wheels can (very easily) be taken off and on... only discovered this when a lovely airport security man did it! That saves a lot of space.

mumoflukas92 · 16/07/2017 21:39

Playpen sounds like a great idea actually! Currently waiting for a house so trying not to over crowd the place til then although at this rate they may have started school by the time I get one

Mum you could always use a travel cot if you've got one, you could collapse it down when you're not using it.

iamapixiebutnotaniceone · 19/07/2017 00:42

i either use the pram with a buggy board with seat attached or take the buggy with baby in a sling. It depends where we are going and what the weather is like.
