AIBU dh is forcing me to use small car for 3 young children

We have 3 children, 6,2 and 1 and I had a Renault Grande Espace which broke down and is now dead. My husband has a Range Rover Evoque which he drives to his work car park and drives it home again in the evenings. He bought a golf gti to use untill we can afford to get another bigger car for me and me use the Range Rover. He has now decided because there are a few footprints on the back of the seat that he wants to use that and me use the golf even though it is a very tight squeeze with the drivers seat too far forwards. I have offered to put a cover on the back of the seat and have been taking their shoes off. I can understand he doesn't want the kids in the car but it is just untill march. What do you all think?

He is being selfish and ridiculous.

Just remove shoes in the car and the problem doesn't exist anymore!

Em, tell him that you need the bigger car to drive the kids you had together around so he will need to take the small one. Who made him God?

Just say no?

"No I won't use the Golf, it's too small."

Then sit back and watch what he does.

I think how big are your kids? I've managed 3 kids in my very modest megane with no problems.

If he said you could use his car then I guess that's the problem and he's going back on it, not that you honestly can't fit 3 small children into a nicely sized golf gti?

And no worries about sticky fingers on dh Range Rover.

It sounds more like op would like to be sailing around in the nice Range Rover.

No problem here at all.... just two folk who both want the fancy car.

Mind you I think a Golf is quite fancy.

I think you want the Range Rover as a status symbol tbh.

You gave yourself away as a petrol head when you used Evoque and GTi in your OP.

I'm not sure why 3 kids and one adult in a golf would be a massive squeeze, how old are they?

Having said that, if you'd rather take the Strange Rover for safety then that's absolutely fair enough. Still think it's vanity though

I can't! It's not a priceless museum exhibit - it's a car. For driving people around. If you have kids, these are the people who need driving somewhere. Anything else is utterly ridiculous.

I had 3 children 1 adult no issues in a Yaris . Don't see the point of owning a Range Rover in town. Why would you?

Check the date people

It seems a lot more sensible for you to have the bigger car. If you can afford cars like that you can afford to have them valetted a couple of times a year. I have a Golf and two DDs with a friend fit in easily- though it would be harder with little ones in chunky car seats.

that the Golf GTi is the "get us by" cheap car.

My mum had 4 dc in a Renault 5. If both parents and 4 dc every had to go anywhere together, someone (or 2) had to go by train. It worked in a fashion (and db1 has been 6'5" since he was 15). We did upgrade to a larger car, ironically once there were only 2 dc at home. We got a Ford Escort!
