We went for 2 v. traditional names for our first 2 boys then a bit left of centre for our third in Saul..if we have another boy (should I get pregnant) thoughts on Pip - I am obsessed with the name but husband not sure!

I always thought it was just a nickname for Philip...

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 18/09/2014 22:18

I love Pip and whilst it is a nickname for Phillip, id have no qualms using it alone. However my DD also has a name which is a "nickname" and I am happy with that.

Everyone on here will say to put Phillip on the bc though Grin

I really don't like Philip though so that's an issue! We also went with Frederick instead of just Freddie for our 2nd in case he turns out to be a bit conservative and we have never used it and he is such a cheeky Freddie - it seems a bit odd that Freddie is not on his BC. I love Great Expectations and the character of Pip in it...so we would go with Pip...if we agree.

Squeak.....if he's got three brothers, he's going to have to get used to that one, I would have thought Grin.

I like it as a nickname but not so sure as a full name - but agree that Philip isn't great. I really wanted Kit for our #4 but DH didn't like Christopher and wanted a 'proper' name, not a derivative.

Puppydogstails1 · 19/09/2014 15:56

Hi Panicmode1 - gosh hadn't even though of Squeak. My boys aren't name calling, although my 1 and 2 can't stand each other this has never been an issue. (HOWEVER, who knows about other children...I need to think about this!!!)

How old are the older ones? My older two are 10 and 9, fiercely competitive and wind each other up all the time. If one was called Pip, the other would defo use squeak against them!

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2014 23:02

But Pip in Great Expectations is Philip Pirrip.

Puppydogstails1 · 20/09/2014 22:40

My boys are 11, 8 and 6 so my potential Pip will be a lot younger...will think on about the teasing though...Still don't like Philip though Bikerunski as I hate Phil for a little boy...tbh my husband doesn't like Pip at all so we'll see.
