Wondering what the average large family consider large, I'm guessing most will have 4 dc.

I will be surprised if many have more than 6 - don't know why!

lisalisa · 08/12/2012 19:44

I have 6 bchildren - so nice to hear of some having more than me. Don't know about anyone else but I can hold my hand up anonym9ously on an internet forum and say I 'm not coping too well at the moment!. All kids fed well and clothed well and doctors eyes and teeth and homework all done but joy gone out of it somewhat - too much exhaustion and shouting. Household v difficlt to manage

zaphod · 08/12/2012 19:45

5 and I am glad we stopped there, because the older they are the harder parenting gets.

Sparklytinsel · 08/12/2012 19:46

I have times like that as well lisalisa especially when my two preteen girls get going!

lisalisa · 08/12/2012 20:20

It is hard sparklytinsel isn't it? Just the sheer washing and ironing! I try and train the kids taht skirts and trousers don't need washing every day but unless I stand like a policeman near the washing baskets its to no avail. And by the time those not dirty skirts have sit near other dirty smelly washing for a day or so they're dirty anyway!!!

The dropping and picking is exhausting. Tonight dh alone ( I'm not well so get a night off!) has picked up and dropped 3 times and has 3 runs left to do!!!

Toddlers and teens in this house!

HDee · 09/12/2012 11:33

Lisalisa, we often sit hree and wonder if other big families are the same as ours.

There is just so much noise and shouting and crying. Our twins are still only two so I know some aspects of that will pass, but why d my children seem t hate each other so much? Why does my 11 year old do all he can to piss off every one of his siblings, plus the dog?

People passing our house must think...well, god knows what they must think some times. On the surface my children look wonderful. They are always washed and dressed beautifully, always at school on time, our house is always clean and tidy etc etc, but it's such hard work!

There is lots of laughter too, and life always seems a little bit dull with no children here but I am looking forward to them growing up a bit.

SilentMammoth · 09/12/2012 16:50

I'm pregnant with number five. I think a larger family is 6 plus, so whoever said a large family is one more than you have is right!

sweetkitty · 09/12/2012 16:53

Four is enough for us. Hats off having two two year olds, one two year old is enough for me.

I agree with the washing it's relentless, the pick ups and drop offs and the fighting. We have no family support so just DH and me, hard hard work.

SilentMammoth · 09/12/2012 16:53

Lisa I know exactly what you mean. Just there sheer knackeringness of laundry packed lunches homework cooked meals shopping bathing then bloody cooking again. Oh yeah, and doing a full day at the office three times pe r week.

Ummofumbridge · 10/12/2012 00:39

I have 5 - it's relentless sometimes especially with 2 toddlers, 2 teens and 1 in the middle.

Arisbottle · 10/12/2012 00:45

Four plus a step son who is here a lot so five

We would like one more at least, have just lost one sadly.

Countmyblessings · 10/12/2012 13:00

There is 5 at the moment, march will make 6 and including DH daughter there is 7!!!!!!
2 adopted!
Worried about the car everything else we can sort!!!
Very excited as have had 3 losses so it would of been more!

lisalisa · 10/12/2012 22:40

HDee I hear you and silentmammoth I think work is an escape really. If I didn't have my work ( I work from home about 5ish hours per day) I would go truly bonkers!

REally though we should count our blessings and always be thankful that we are busyh with such wonderful things and nothing worse.x

Pinkchatz · 23/12/2012 08:09

I have 7. I don't consider 3 or 4 children a large family at all even though most people do. To me anything over 5 is big but I don't class it a really large family till you hit double figures!
