I have 3 and 2 step kids so usually 5 most days of the week. I know that's not many at all really.

I wonder which MNer has the most dc?

I have 4 and im from a family of 6 kids but im more than happy with my 4 and 1 sdd x

sheepgomeep · 24/04/2012 02:32

I have four too. Three girls and a boy all range from 12 down to 1.

Is four a large family? Round here its not the norm to have more than three although I know a few families who have four plus dc, I know a few fives, one seven and a family of ten (who moved into her sisters 3 bed, who also has 3 kids) who live up the road from me. So fifteen in one house.

duchesse · 24/04/2012 02:35

I have 4, 3 girls and a boy, ranging in age from 18 to 2. I always wanted 4. I come from a family of 5 and always felt it was too many, but perversely didn't feel "done" until DD3 was born.

Lemele · 24/04/2012 13:03

I only have 3, which I see as an average size family (2 yo ds, 4 wk old twin boys). I've thought for ages that I wanted 4 kids but I'm not so sure now, mostly coz the 2nd pregnancy was so tough (REALLY not sure I can do that again), I got the birth I wanted, but also suddenly I feel quite happy with my current kids :) Half expecting this to change but if it does it'll only be in hope of a daughter!

Not so sure about being toddler-free in only a few years though. I'm only 25 and it seems weird. I'm certain this is coz my parents had 9 kids (all theirs, no twins). The eldest is 27 and youngest is now 12 - so my mum is still very much being a mum. She would've carried on past 9 kids if she could, I'm sure (had her last at 46)...

We get some sleep lol it's hard when they are ill like now but luckily OH is on holiday from work as we were meant to go away this weekend and it didn't happen as I'm not well either.

UmmOfUmbridge · 29/04/2012 23:35

I have 5. Eldest is an almost 16 year old DS and the rest are girls. Youngest is 12 months. I'm from a family of 3 siblings, DH only 2.
I always said I wanted four but dd4 was a bit of a surprise and came along 11 months after dd3. I've found it quite difficult having such a close age gap but also brilliant.
I'm done now. SPD and falling apart body has cured me. Well.... I still get broody but I know I couldn't manage another pregnancy so I'm enjoying my baby while I can!

tots2ten · 09/05/2012 12:31

I have 6,
dd1 nearly 14,
dd2 12
ds1 8
dd3 5
ds2 nearly 4
and dd4 2.5yrs

lovelivelaugh · 12/06/2012 23:07

I have 5 atm, DD aged 6(almost), non-id twin boys aged 4. Another set of non-id twin boys 2 and pregnant with 6 and 7. I know one is a girl.
I'm aiming for probs another 2 after this pregnancy.

Romilly70 · 12/06/2012 23:20

lovelivelaugh 3 sets of twins?!

To all the mums with large families, how on earth do you cope; who if anyone helps you?

I am a sahm mum to one 20mth DS and it's not easy.
though perversely, he is easier when there are other children around and they seem to entertain themselves....

tumbleweedblowing · 12/06/2012 23:25

I feel like a complete failure with only 3. Wanted 4, but the arrival of DD3 threw us both so badly within weeks we knew if we had 4, we'd only leave one behind in a pub somewhere.

As it was, I left her on the pavement in her car seat and drove off. That was when I knew it really had to be only 3. Blush

In awe of all of you 4+

lovelivelaugh · 13/06/2012 08:02

I work full time and my grandparents and mother who are all retired help out a lot. I would be lost with out them sometimes

VibeLover · 14/06/2012 20:25

5 here and Im a childminder with 9 children on register (obviously I don't mind them all at once)

Meal times are like feeding time at the zoo hectic Grin

AnotherLoad · 14/06/2012 20:38

3 here 10,7 & 22mths, dont feel complete yet and would like maybe 2 more :)

can i ask those of 4 and more how do you get through christmas as i find it such a struggle and bank busting with just the 3! plus when i think of having to buy uniform for more than 3 i wonder if i could afford any more. but it must be possible by reading this thread Grin there is hope lol

OverflowingMum · 15/06/2012 20:43

6 here. 14,12,10,7,6,4. Oldest and youngest are boys.middle 4 girls. Never a dull moment here. Weirdest thing now ds 2 is coming out of toddler stage as out feels like I have had a baby or toddler around for the last 14 years!

MerseyMama · 18/10/2012 18:08

Four, three girls and a boy

NAR4 · 19/10/2012 10:49

I am expectong number 5. Would love to keep going but then it gets really complicated. We would not fit in our people carrier and would need a minibus (really expensive to run) and at least one more toilet (we only have 1). A bigger house and bank balance would also help.

If we suddenly came into alot of money, hubby and me both agree we would have more children.

My mum is 1 of 13 and her parents are 1 of 9 and 1 of 15 (I think). My dad is an only child and so are both his parents. I was 1 of 7 and hubby 1 of 3.

1 of my sons says he doesn't want children as they are too expensive and another wants as many as possible. The others don't comment.

slightlytipsy · 20/10/2012 23:47

I'm expecting my third/fourth/fifth in Jan, so then I'll have five, all under under five (have twins, expecting triplets)!

harrygracejessica · 24/10/2012 22:45

Slightly tipsy i had 5 under 5, singleton then 2 sets of twins :-) its tiring but worth it :-)

BadRoly · 24/10/2012 22:51

4 here which is not unusual round me and not what I consider a large family tbh - I'm always surprised when we are considered large Grin

jellybeans · 24/10/2012 23:00

I have 5 and we lost 2 DDs late in pregnancy. I sometimes get broody for more but have extremely high risk pregnancy and births. Also spacewise and moneywise we are at our limits comfortably. People often are shocked when I say I have 5. From 4 onwards they thought it was a lot. I never had 3 though as had twins with 3 and 4. I would say 4 plus is large family these days!

jellybeans · 24/10/2012 23:06

I find christmas fine as don't spend that much yet they are happy with what they get. They get more for birthdays as they are spread out more. I find it easier having a few as they entertain each other. Twins are same sex as each other as are older DDs so they are very close and share rooms. Never need other kids to play as they play so well amongst themselves.

I find as they get older it is expensive. Eg multiple brownies subs multiple swimming lessons etc. Hundreds of pounds a month when due. Holidays abroad are very expensive we go every few years but like UK as much. Housework can be overwhelming.

lollystix · 26/10/2012 08:45

4 boys. 6 to 1 in age. Work FT and have amazing nanny. Emigrated this year to other side of world and life is easier IMHO but I never had family help in the UK
