Will I need a triple buggy?

I am expecting my third child in June 2012. When he or she is born, my other two will be aged 25 months and 12 months. I would like to avoid getting a triple buggy as they look so cumbersome but don't think my eldest will be able to walk everywhere at 25 months (also, I don't have a car). What are my options? Does anyone have experience of this??

How about using a sling to start with for the new baby while it's tiny. Then you will have time to adjust a see how your eldest manages walking places, if he/she still needs a sleep at all etc. You could consider a buggy board on a double for your eldest when they get tired and then keep a baby carrier/ sling in the shopping basket for if the eldest needs a sleep or rest and you could carry the baby.
I have seen a triple in my town that is basically an all-terrain style double (side-by-side) with the third seat on top facing the parent. No idea what it was though. Hopefully someone will know more about triples Smile

Buggy board, for oldest not newborn obviously!

Hi congratulations!
I would use sling for baby to start with and then buggy board for oldest. Let oldest one practice on board a bit before you start using it all the time, my 26 month old is great on it now but took a few weeks to get used to it. He loves it now though! He didn't walk till age 20 months mind you!

Btw the one you saw sounds like an ABC buggy, I think they are made in New Zealand

definitely buggy board

The double side by side with the seat on top is indeed an ABC Adventure buggy and can be shipped from NZ. We have the single one with double top seat and its bloody FANTASTIC!! My DB in nz used the double with single top seat when his dc were similar ages as yours they used it for about a year and loved it(we are bringing it back with us when we visit at christmas as the double will be better over our farmland as twins get bigger). With my one I like to swap the dc round every few days so that all 3 get the chance to face the pusher. Even the one we have feels nice and sturdy as the way the top seats are configured means that the DCs weight is centred over the middle of the pushchair so it dosent feel like it will tip at all. Even dc1 and 2 (10 and 11) can push it fully loaded without to much troubleGrin

As others have said you could try slinging the baby to start then when baby becomes to heavy/difficult go for a buggy board as by then your eldest will be ok on a buggy board. I couldnt go for this option as ds 2 was only 14mth when the twins arived and due to a problem with my shoulders/back it is impossible for me to sling even a new born for more than 20mins without being in agony.

Congrats Ruff. Along with everyone else, I second the sling. However, your gaps are quite small - with my three it was 19 then 20 mths. I managed with a Phil and Teds but walk everywhere and our nursery run is a 20 min adult walk. DD1 who had just turned three was soooo painful because she couldn't sit when she was tired that eventually she ended sitting on the footrest of the Phil and Teds (stuffed up the front wheel, it has). If your oldest dc still naps, or it is winter, or your walks are long; you may find a triple buggy would help. I've often looked at those ABC buggies with envy (I will never require one!). I struggle with one dd1 on the buggy board. She tried to ride it like a scooter, which ended up getting downright dangerous. Of course, all dcs are different, I found a scooter a lot more helpful than the buggy board. GoodlLuck!

Like myboots said, the ABC buggy is amazing Grin
I have 2YO triplets and have a double with a single seat on top - its brilliant!
If, for some reason, I only have 2 children - the top seat comes off really easily, and I have a double!
You could do the same with your DC's - if you think DC1 can walk all the way somewhere, you can leave the seat off; if its a long walk and DC might want a rest - clip the seat on!

I'm A childminder and when I started I had a 15 month old, 13 month old and 8 month old and the eldest has always been fine on the buggy board. I don't use it bis the eldest 2 walk (now 30 months and 28 months) and the youngest (my ds) goes in the pushchair. If I ever get another double it will be an out n about nipper 360 they're lovely to push and not heavy and can have a buggy board on too.

dreamfeeder · 04/12/2011 18:46

Google buggy pod and buggy bike for a tandem double like the Phil and teds or the BJ city select. I considered these options (am 20 weeks with twins and a 14 month old) but went for the ABC triple as saw one on eBay in the end. Or just buggy board.

Sorry, couldn't link, on phone

Ds1 was 3.3 and dts were 21mths when ds3 was born. I managed with a sling and a double nipper. When baby was in the pushchair then twins shared it with one in and one walking. If they were both tired I popped one on the hood! Ds1 always walked.

Another vouch for the ABC everest - I have 2 sets of twins and between my eldest son and first set of twins only 15 months so needed it then and reused it when the 2nd twins arrived too.

What about a sit on buggy board?
