“Jew” crossed out in school dictionary

I just posted this in 90 days, but think it’s probably more appropriate here.

I live in London, so school is very multicultural. DC came home this week saying that the word “Jew” had been crossed out in a school dictionary. I’m not sure whether it was found by the teacher or another pupil. I’ve no doubt that school will try to address this, but it seems so dark. This is a primary school.
I feel really uncomfortable not knowing which parents are chatting at the school gates are really harbouring enough hatred at home for a child to do that.

That’s really really awful. The symbolism of doing that is deeply unsettling. I really hope the school deal with this appropriately.

I am Christian and find this very disturbing. I am concerned by the rise in antisemitism and to me this crossing out seems to show a very bad attitude.

It’s happened a couple more times since. The last time prompted a search of all dictionaries in case it had been done a previous year. It’s now happened again, which shows it’s someone in the class. Any advice on how I can help school manage this? What can they realistically do?

I'm so, so sorry. The school need to find out who is doing it. They need to monitor the use of the dictionaries until they find the culprit. They can't just let this slide.

Then the parents of the child need to come in for a chat and also reimburse the school for the cost of replacement dictionaries. If the child continues with this hateful behaviour they need to be suspended 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean, it's completely unacceptable. There need to be actual consequences.

How can they find out who is doing it though?

They need to check the dictionaries every time a child has used them. It will require effort, but it's worth it.

What this child is repeatedly doing is so incredibly unacceptable. They're clearly being encouraged one way or another at home. It's important the teaching staff monitor the use of the dictionaries until the culprit is found.

They have put dictionaries out of use now

People have to bring their own dictionaries
