March tomorrow against antisemitism

Hi all. Have seen a few people mentioning going tomorrow. I am travelling in and am supposed to be stewarding but have had to warn I might be late due to tubes! Or lack of them!

Just wondered how we are all feeling?

I'll be there and I'm hoping that the tube strikes won't put too many people off (looks like some of the lines, including the Northern Line, are still running).

It was a really nice atmosphere last year, lots of solidarity and comfort to be surrounded by others experiencing the same thing.

BrinkWomanship · 07/09/2025 09:41

I’ll be there too.

BrinkWomanship · 07/09/2025 09:46

I’m feeling good about going. I’m leaving my children at home. The risk is high. A load of Jews together? A great target for some hater, I’m sure.

I also really hope many non-Jews attend but am realistic that it’ll probably not happen. Though we have allies, they mostly appear to be passive and quiet, thereby making those antisemitic voices seem more numerous and louder than they are.

Having said that, I saw a headline today (didn’t read the article) saying 20% of Brits are antisemitic and believe Israel is treating Gazans as poorly as the nazis treated Jews during the holocaust. I despair.

Beachtastic · 07/09/2025 11:00

I'm sorry I won't be there (as a non-Jew to lend my voice in support). I'm heavily involved in elder care a long way from London and have sent a donation to CAA instead (a pretty poor second, but better than nowt). I hope everything goes peacefully today and that transport delays don't put too much of a spanner in the works. Good luck, thinking of you all 💗

BrinkWomanship · 07/09/2025 18:57

Thank you @Beachtastic for your support. I hope your caring duties are OK.

It was a good event. V well attended, peaceful and good spirited. So many British flags flying alongside the Israeli flag. It felt very appropriate.

We marched past the BBC (boo!) and then to Oxford Circus, down Regents Street, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Parliament Square. I was unable to stay for the speeches but I am heartened by the amount of people in attendance.

I understand there were representatives from Reform and the Tories shadow cabinets but no government representatives were present (though some Labour backbencher MPs were there). No surprises there then. Sigh.

Beachtastic · 07/09/2025 19:04

@BrinkWomanship Thank you so much for posting an update, I have been thinking of you all day. I kept checking my phone for news, but the BBC (boooooo!!!!!!) was more interested in reporting on the arrest for Palestine Action yesterday, presumably because human rights violations etc etc blah blah whatever. 🤡 Maybe something will be mentioned tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm so glad it was well attended -- I expect many more, like me, were there in spirit.

DuskyBlueDepartingLight · 08/09/2025 07:50

Has anyone seen any coverage this morning? The bad faith of not running this story! The media types are probably congratulating themselves on not giving Farage any positive reporting. Antisemitism is not a party political issue! It's journalism's role to report facts! It's to Labour's great shame that they didn't send a rep! Nobody standing against antisemitism physically attacked police officers!

Massive thank you to everyone who attended

Beachtastic · 08/09/2025 08:40

I can only see something in Metro

...and a Jewish Chronicle article that mentions the call upon the government to defund the BBC! (I'd imagine lots of people would support that whether they care about antisemitism or not!)

I can't believe I once used to think that journalism reported facts. (I was disabused of this illusion many years ago, but about much more trivial issues.)

There was an article about it in the Daily Mail (irrespective of thoughts on it as a whole they do tend to pick up things like this, and it was utterly shameful that nobody from Labour bothered to turn up) https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15074567/thousands-march-London-demonstration-against-antisemitism-poll-suggested-one-five-people-hostile-Jewish-people-Labour.html
and the Telegraph had an article by Gideon Falter before the march and a follow up about the march and the high levels of antisemitism.

I've long given up on the BBC and the Guardian which is a shame because it makes it hard to get a rounded view of the news, though I try to listen to podcasts etc.

Thousands march through London on demonstration against antisemitism

The rally was organised by the anti-racism group Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), who argue that there has been a surge in antisemitism in the nearly two years since October 7.

We're being force teamed with the Right.

Much like GC women are re. Women's rights.

Like them, I am tired of explaining reality to fuckwits.

Beachtastic · 08/09/2025 13:25

The photos gladdened my heart. The turnout is particularly impressive given that many participants would have been worried for their own safety, keenly aware of threats that the "pro-Pal" demos simply don't have to worry about.

youdidntthough · 08/09/2025 15:11

I attended as a non Jewish ally and chatted to a number of other non-Jewish allies on the march.

BrinkWomanship · 08/09/2025 23:24

Thank you for joining us @youdidntthough. That means a lot.

SharonEllis · 19/09/2025 07:17

Sorry for such a belated comment. I was there (I'm not Jewish). I felt it was angrier than the last one but still warm and friendly and resolute. I only winessed one confrontation along the way, most people along the way looked a bit bemused orwere quite supportive, which was encouraging. I ended up going on my own for the first half as various friends couldn't make it and I was only joined by a friend at the end. Which made me notice that there were quite a few of us solo marchers, which I thought was interesting.
