Inspiration please! What's on the menu? What else are you baking? Any Iraqi/Moroccan recipes you could recommend?

If anyone remembers my challah problems a while ago, I have cracked it with the Waitrose recipe, weekly success! May twist some apple pieces/raisins into the dough for fun...

Any successful honey cake recipes that don't make me wince at sugar content?

I just want to hear ALL your thoughts!

Oooops!
I once left mine to defrost in the sink in bags overnight. They obviously had a hole because I came in to see a lonely carrot in the sink. It had defrosted straight down the drain! 🤣

Ok but that's absolutely hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂

It was very funny once I got over my shock and puzzlement 🤣 I was 19 and a bit clueless.

If you’re near the kosher shops they sell proper chicken soup in tubs 🤫🤐 (#nooneneedstoknow)

and if anyone feels inadequate about where they are up to with cooking, I have so far made the grand total of… nothing for yom tov 🤦‍♀️😅 but I have a sort of meal plan now and I’ve stocked up on milk, because we will prob have shortages after yom tov 😅
(It’s a post yom tov thing here)

Humdingerydoo · 30/09/2024 23:40

I actually don't like the soup they sell near me 🙈 it's too salty. Which is why I was making my own! It'll just have to be an unusually expensive bowl of soup, I guess :)

And honestly, I don't think this is anywhere near even my top 10 most disastrous kitchen endeavours. We can't all be good at everything, right??

Sooo disorganised this year! Anyway, currently chopping away to prepare this: https://ottolenghi.co.uk/pages/recipes/ultimate-winter-couscous

Also prepping challot to bake tomorrow morning and a last minute honey cake. Apple crumble, but haven't yet decided how to make the topping dairy-free. Not a fan of margarine.

I'm not cut out for this!

If anyone needs anything a bit lighthearted to take their minds off what's going on, behold my ridiculous challot. Like the poo emoji. Mortified.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that's hilarious! They'll look amazing when baked though, as long as you don't cover them in chocolate and add googly eyes

@MovingBird123 could you use coconut oil or coconut butter to make dairy free crumble?

MovingBird123 · 01/10/2024 23:13

I read about coconut oil/butter, glad to hear it from someone else... enough to give me the push to try it. I'll report back!
