My DD is attending one of her classmate's bat mitzvahs shortly. We live in London, if that makes a difference. Can anyone recommend the going rate / give ideas for gifts please? The kids are talking about skincare Confused (don't they all at the moment?) but that doesn't feel quite right to me.

Hopeful bump for the evening crowd.

My DD mostly got money (£20-25) from classmates but we’re in the north. Or jewellery of a similar value. She got skincare from a few friends as well.

Thank you @Confuzzleduzzled. This is helpful.

I have a vague memory from one of the Jewish Youtubers I follow about it being usual to give cash in multiples of a significant number on these occasions but I can't remember what it wad! Better Google it!

Also, I can't post a new topic but would like to ask, please, where is best in London for something like the amazing pastrami sandwich I had at Katz's in New York? It was quite unlike the pastrami you can buy in supermarkets and I would love to find something similar, not too expensive if possibe. Thanks.

@DrSeuss it’s traditional to give in multiples of 18 which represent the Hebrew letters (חי) for life

Last Bat Mitzvah I attended I gave £36 - not well off and not hugely close with bat mitzvah. You could always put it on a gift card for a particular shop that does skin care to make it more "personalised".

These are great ideas, thanks. I didn't know about the chai thing. You learn something new every day!

@DrSeuss Reuben's on Baker Street or the food hall at selfridges should get you a decent salt beef sandwich. I do t like it myself but know others who go to both these places regularly.
