I was just wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me. I've recently found out that my Great Grandparents were orthodox Jews that moved to the UK around 1900. I am trying to find out more information about them and after getting in touch with a distant cousin it might be that my Great Grandfather was a rabbi. My questions are;

Is there anyway to find out if he was a rabbi?
Can anyone study to become a rabbi?
Can someone point me in the right direction for specifically UK Jewish history?
Can anyone tell me about Jewish history in Scotland in particular Aberdeen?
Any other information I might find interesting/helpful that I haven't thought of?

All very vague things but if I don't ask the questions, I'll never find out the answers! Thanks!

Have you tried the Jewish genealogy website? https://www.jewishgen.org/

Will see what bits I can help with!
yes, any man (in orthodox tradition) can become a rabbi. The process is called getting semicha. there may be records around this, I don’t know sorry.

record keeping is an important part of Jewish tradition. Assuming he was married, there will have been a document attesting to the marriage called the kesuba. It is possible records of these are kept somewhere? The Jewish burial society (the chevra kadisha) may keep records too - might be worth tracking them down?

if you know where they were buried, their full Hebrew name should be on the gravestone .

There is a Jewish museum in Manchester in Cheetham hill , i never visited so no idea if it is any good. Mancunian Jews originally lived in the cheetham hill area (and in town) and gradually moved towards Prestwich/salford , hence why the museum is there.

There is a synagogue in Aberdeenshire, so it may be worth you contacting them. Here is an interesting page from their website.
