LISA for 18 year old?

DC has £30k in s and s isa and further 9k to put somewhere also.
they are of to uni for 4 years and have no need for this money at the moment. Is it worth dripping the money into a LISA, or given potential changes and current issues with LISA, putting the £9k into a stock and share is a also?

Our child is the same age with a very similar amount and in first year of uni. Our financial advisor has said the LISA is the best route and he has put the full amount in for this financial year and will do the same next year. She is quite positive she wants to stay in the UK. That was my only fear as it is rubbish if they don’t buy a property in the Uzk.

This is a good point. I have 2 young adult DC about to start Uni. One has a S&S LISA as it is highly likely he will buy a house at some point so the extra 25% is valuable to him. The other has no intention of ever settling down and buying property in the UK at the moment and prefers the flexibility of a S&S ISA. They do also both have a small SIPP which I set up to help them learn that saving for the future at their age is more important as state help will be less reliable in the future.

If the young person has half a house under a joint tenancy agreement can they still have a LISA? I can’t see the point of a sipp if they can just pay to a parents personal pension (sc) scheme and get the tax advantages.

It is something you should get tailored advice on. We have gone the stocks and share ISA route as there is a strong likelihood our son will work abroad and not buy property in the UK.

thanks @WinterTreaclei will get an IFA as I find the whole thing a bit baffling.
