I have 10k I could afford to lose, where would you invest it for a chance of a high return?

You could just send it to me.

Following. If we all knew that we’d be rolling in it

MN is probably not the best place to ask this question. If you're on Reddit, try r/UKpersonalfinance

Depends what you mean by high risk and high return. A basic global tracker is usually enough of both for me but I'm guessing you are looking for share tips.

I've almost doubled my money this year in WDEP- WisdomTree Europe Defence ETF- and I suspect it will go quite a lot higher given increased defence spending across Europe + barriers to entry. Not everyone wants to invest in defence though- I wouldn't usually but actually am in favour of raising defence spending in Europe at present given the international situation.

But if this £10k is your only investment, stick to a tracker.

I would also recommend a diversified ETF but just wanted to add that you should put it in an ISA so capital gains and dividends are free of tax.

There are plenty of investments that are ludicrously high risk, and pretty much guaranteed to wipe you out: CFDs, futures, options, crypto, leveraged ETFs, etc.

But if you think about it, a really high risk investment pretty much rules a high return, because you will have lost all the money.

A sensible, moderate volatility (which is different from risk) investment is a highly diversified global equity ETF. My favourite is popular VWRL: Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF

It has returned 10%pa over the past 10 years, and has a typical annual fluctuation (aka standard deviation) of + or - 10%. That's pretty respectable, and it's very difficult, even for professionals, to do much better.

Personally I’d do shares, you need to know what you are doing though. DH has invested some, we’ve had quite a few payouts.
