Foreign currency

My dc's grandparents live abroad (Bulgaria). Every time we visit they gift dc some cash in their currency. I was thinking we would need local money to spend while there anyway so didn't exchange but it has somehow accumulated a bit.
I don't deal with cash anymore in my everyday life living here in the U.K. and don't remember ever exchanging money here.
Just wondering what is the best place to do that hat so I can finally put in dc's ISA.
Would different places have different exchange rates and if so, who would be the best for that?

Thank you

Yes, you will get different exchange rates from different places.

Rather than trying to exchange banknotes it may be better to pay the money into a Bulgarian bank account (eg your parents) and then transfer it to your account in the UK.

Money Saving Expert have some good recommendations for who have the best deals at the moment:

Or if you just want to change the Bulgarian banknotes into British banknotes then they have recommendations here:

Set up a Wise account and then just transfer it to your British bank account. (Obviously you'd need to pay it into a Bulgarian bank account first.) That's the best way to ensure you get a decent exchange rate and don't get stung on bank fees.

Someone once sent €100 from the UK to my French bank account and bloody HSBC charged me €25 to receive it, so I would never risk doing a regular bank transfer between countries again. Use a service which is set up for this purpose.

@MissScarletInTheBallroom ah, that's very useful to know. Thank you!
