Is Woking a Bad Place to Buy a House Now?

Hi,

This is a mum-to-be immigrant who has been too busy slaving away to build wealth than actually exploring England.

Now, my partner and I are looking to purchase a property up to 425k, within commutable distance to London that is also more vibrant than our current place. We live in Welwyn Garden City and quite frankly my soul has become a raisin.

Now, we found the perfect flat in Woking, 85 m2, right by the river, gorgeous neighbours, next to the David Lloyd gym. My issue is that there are various signs screaming “DONT GO THROUGH WITH IT”, including what I read on schools, council, the community vibe, and general day to day.

To top it all up, the searches came back with a high risk of flood for the property. Should I run? Is Woking bad? Is it a bad investment that might cost me money rather than appreciating in the future?

Woking is great, transport links to London are super fast, there's a canal, theatre, shops etc, near to Guildford, other nice towns etc
Also diverse, good food & easy access to country side/ South downs
Flood risk I'd take seriously anywhere tho

I'd say Woking is a very good place to buy. It has great transport links, theatre, new cinema etc. If you like the property, go for it.

The council tax has already increased, so just compare it to other towns, it isn't very different. Guildford and many other councils are also likely to face bankruptcy.
