Trading 212 vs Vanguard

user050404 · 04/05/2024 23:19

I started investing last year and have been using Trading 212 due to not having to pay platform fees.

I predominantly invest in the Vanguard funds (FTSE 100, S&P 500, FTSE All-World). I also have some individual stocks which are all in the green but I will be selling, as I feel like index funds are the way forward for me.

So that begs the question, is there any reason for me to move to Vanguard as a platform? Are there any benefits?

I keep feeling like Trading 212 is too good to be true as I have access to the same funds, but with less fees. Am I missing something?

I'm the other way around, I'm on the Vanguard platform but looking to possibly move to an alternative as I can still get the Vanguard Funds (in some cases at a lower cost than from Vanguard) and there are some other benefits with Trading 212 such as 5.2% on non invested cash. I don't really bother with individual stocks or crypto (have a few £ of each on other platforms).

I'll likely stay invested in the FTSE Global all cap on both my S&S ISA and SIPP pension regardless of which platform.

I've been using Vanguard for the last 3 years or so and have had no issues, but their are other options out there with lower fees and better user interfaces (in my opinion).

Not sure you would have anything to gain by moving to them, but its all personal preference.

The main disadvantage of Trading 212 is that they don't currently offer a SIPP, so you'd need to use Vanguard directly for that. But for an ISA / general investment account I can't see any advantage in paying Vanguard's platform fee when you can buy the same funds on T212, plus have the option of shares and non-Vanguard funds if you want as well.
