Long story so I won't go into details here.

Person is not working. Living off recent sale of house(ran out of money and could no longer afford mortgage). No intent to work atm even though promised.
Still has most of money from house sale.

Sits at home all day with 3/4 computer screens watching stock market and listening to news about it.
Rarely goes out or does anything else around house even though has a family.
Has been doing this for past few years and not working.

I know nothing about the stock market.
Why is he doing this?

I would have thought so. It's a bit like gambling isn't it with a bit more information behind the choices you make, so it's not totally chancing it but could go either way. I imagine the high of seeing a stock you bought for whatever price double in a short space of time being quite similar to winning on a slot machine.

Thanks lolly.

Maybe they are day trading, which is different to long term investing.

Investing is a get rich slow process. Day trading in my view is gambling. Picking individual stocks, buying and selling frequently, is a risky strategy.

It sounds like this person is a serious stock picker so yes it's gambling but they obviously know a lot about it...

Thank you. Been doing it a few years but it consumes their whole life and unfortunately affecting mine as they do nothing else at all. Usually during day. Comes off about 9pm I think.
