Pension fuck-up??

Short version…

workplace pension. Employee contribution made before income tax and NI applied (so a “net pay” arrangement).

however, pension statement shows that additional pension relief of 20% being applied to employee contribution - indicating a “relief at source” arrangement).

im convinced its an error - effectively tax relief is being claimed into the pension pot where no tax has actually been paid given the pre-tax contribution.

no response from employer as yet…. If I’m right I’ve got thousands in my pension pot as tax relief that shouldn’t be there.

opinion?

If it's definitely a salary sacrifice arrangement then I agree with you - though if you are higher rate tax payer can you get additional relief? Could that be it?

Stranger things have happened. Nothing you can do but wait to see what employer says.

Does it definitely refer to tax relief? It's not to do with your employer's contribution?

Yep, def tax relief. And not showing as to do with employers contribution.
