Stocks & shares ISA ideas?

I had a long-running Legal & General S&S ISA, putting an amount in every month. It had very low/no fees and was a reasonable way to save - not high returns but a convenient tax-free savings vehicle.

A year ago L&G closed this part of their business. I transferred funds to something else temporarily, but I'm now looking for a similar sort of S&S ISA, which doesn't charge exorbitant fees.

What have MNers found good mainstream Stocks & shares ISAs that don't charge exorbitantly?

Index trackers are generally the cheapest. They mirror the movements of a section of the stock market. You can choose which section you'd like to track - the bigger UK companies (FTSE 100 or 250), or the whole of the UK (FTSE all-share), or a global one, or there are loads of others. You can also get socially responsible trackers that filter out companies with a negative social or environmental impact.

Firms like Legal & General, Vanguard and Royal London (among others) offer index trackers. Are you investing through a platform, like Fidelity or Hargreaves Lansdown? They provide lots of info. Morningstar is also a good place to check out funds.

Thanks! I had a Legal & General S&S tracker, but they closed all of them down. Will start doing a bit of research in the companies you suggest.

@FarEast Have a look at Trading 212 for an almost fee-free ISA. There is a 0.15% charge on foreign currency conversion, but irrelevant if you are investing in UK funds/shares.

There is one caveat which is that there is some uncertainty about the validity of holding fractional shares in ISAs. If you are just wanting to invest in funds like low cost Vanguard trackers then this doesn't matter at all.

Free share as well currently with referral link, although I think the lack of platform and dealing charges is much more relevant for your situation. Referral link anyway id you're interested. You can actually open a non-ISA account to see if you like the interface etc before deciding whether to transfer your existing ISA or not.

You need to decide what you what s&s fund you want to invest your money in, then identify which providers provide access to those funds and then assess which one to go with primarily based on the fees they charge.

Legal and General were your platform provider and the S&S ISA is just the tax wrapper your investment sits in. You haven't said what you were invested in or what you want to invest in.
