Nutmeg feedback

I'm completely new to this but put a part of my pension lump sum into a Nutmeg account the risk factor is 5. I put in 16,500 but it is currently down by almost 2k
I've just left it hoping it will recover but was wondering if I should change the risk level or leave well alone. I don't need the money now but seeing it erode away is very scary

Key question

how far are you from retirement age?

Bromptotoo · 04/10/2023 16:21

And key question 2 is how long has the money been there. I assume you mean that the £16,500 you invested is now down to £14,500.

Were there any up front fees that might have been deducted?

orangelotus · 04/10/2023 22:31

Yes I have retired already luckily out the rest of my lump sum into savings. But this is a big chunk of the amount I got.
I put the cash in in 2021
I do not know about fees have tried to look now but cannot see.
I've been very naive I think

I'm just concerned it will keep going down or should I just hope for the best.
I didn't get enough of a lump sum to engage a financial advisor, went to a seminar where I was told this .

Risk level more is about volatility.

I invested with them for about a year but only ever lost money (not much, thankfully).

DH on the other hand has had his pot go up by 10%.

We chose similar risk portfolios so fuck knows why he's been more successful.

It’s been a volatile few years to invest depending on when you put the money in. I gave my son some money as part of his 18th and told him a bit about how investing and what to go for. Then Putin invaded Ukraine and he just lost loads immediately. It’s only just started to increase now. He could have made more from ordinary savings interest but that’s the risk you take

for what it’s worth I put 16k into Nutmeg over a few months between 2018-19 and have just left it there. It’s now worth almost 20k so not too bad I don’t think. Time weighted return of 22.37%. Interest rates were REALLY low when I first put the money in so it’s done better than it would have done in an ordinary savings account.

I’ve got other investments with Vanguard that I started later than the Nutmeg one and you can see the volatility difference since then having an impact on the returns on what I’m putting in. I regularly feed those investments and know I’ll have to wait a lot longer to see any decent returns than I did for the nutmeg one.

but I’m a few years off retirement so don’t mind the volatility quite so much as I would if I was already retired.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/10/2023 15:27

What did you think would happen to your lump sum? Did you understand that the funds are best left in there for 5-10 years? Or were you hoping to use it for a regular income?
